LIM - what time to arrive?
This is probably a stupid question and I apologize in advance if this has already been answered. What's the recommended time arriving at LIM prior to departure? I read on the airport site that they suggest 2 hours for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights. Is that way too early? (I am planning to check in online.) Just wondering what other people's experiences are... FYI, I will be traveling from Miraflores to the airport so I guess I will also need to buffer in 30-40 min of travel time.

You will need to plan an hour to get to the airport, and with luck, it will take less time. If you are traveling int'l, I'd recommend 3 hours. You don't say your class, hour and destination of travel.

It will be two trips. One on LA to CUZ departing at 12:40PM in economy. The other is UA to EWR departing at 10:20PM in business. Do you recommend two hours for domestic and three hours for intl + an hour of travel time to the airport?

I find LIM to be a slow-moving airport. The check-in and exit procedures can be kind of tedious. Give yourself a full three hours at the airport for your international flight and two for your domestic one.

At the time you leave with your UA flight, 2h should be sufficient, especially in biz. If everybody arrives 3h early, it will take at least 1h, but probably more to work down the queue and all those pax waiting for over an hour in line will make the flight. However check the min checkin time as some airports demand 2h or you may be denied joining the line.
For domestic, checkin lines can be long and in case of overbooking you are better off when you are early. |

I can't speak for domestic, although the security lines should be short, in fact, very short. (Even for Int'l.) The issue arises with the exit migration lines, and the competence of your airline checking you in. You are leaving before the worst of the evening flight bank.
For our flight to cuz, we were checked in and at our gate within 40 mins of walking in the front doors. |
Thanks for the responses guys. I will just follow the airport recommendation and factor in an extra hour of travel time to the airport. If I get in early, I will check out the SUMAQ lounge and the famous orange juice machine. :)

Guess I was quite fortunate. I just got back from LIM and didn't experience any of the long lines through security and immigration (for both my domestic and intl flights). It seemed most of the people were waiting in line to check in bags or print their boarding passes but that was on the other side of the airport and not up the escalators.
I did have to budget about an hour drive to the airport since I was leaving Saturday evening when traffic was pretty bad. There were also a lot of people attending Mistura. Is there free/paid wi-fi in the airport? I noticed an AP named Vex and when I connected it says Choose your ISP. I'm not sure if that's for locals only. I ended up in the SUMAQ lounge where internet speeds were OK - I was able to make a VOIP call to the US. |
