Lima airport transport options?

Hi,

Heading to Lima for a few days next week.

The hotel I've booked at isn't answering emails so they're no use WRT arranging airport pickup.

Is getting a taxi from the airport safe/OK? Anyone know of any reputable outfits we might pre-book through, otherwise?

Thanks.

After passing through Customs but before you enter the inevitable waiting crowd in the arrivals area of the international terminal, there are several taxi desks (look to your left as you exit Customs, you can't miss them). Get a taxi (or a "remisse") there. These ones are safe. If you take a taxi out front of the terminal building you'll pay much less but will be running some risk of getting into trouble.

Thanks, Siempre. Any clue about how much we'll pay?

I would expect about $15 but it depends on where you're going...

The three companies that have a taxi desk are listed here... I just use a different taxi company but here are the websites for Taxi Green and Mitsoo.

Is there an easy way to catch them from city center back to the airport? Are there kiosk throughout the city?

Just hail one on the street.

How do I know if they are reputable if I hail them on the street?

Probably not the best idea, especially for a first timer (like I just was).

You can have your hotel arrange one for you back to the airport, or else look into arranging something stateside.

FYI, we ended up booking with Lima Cabs, who were recommended highly on Trip Advisor. We booked return airport transport, plus a couple of tours with them while we were in Lima. Edward was very professional and a great resource. I highly recommend them.

Yeah problem is I am not staying at a hotel....just a 10 hour layover and am not sure when and where I will be ready to head back to the airport. Suggestions? Maybe I will go into a Hilton/Marriott or something and get one from there.

That is a good option. I'm actually in Lima right now. I've taken both the yellow taxis and the "remisse"private taxis from the hotel. The remisse are a bit more expensive not not outrageous and certainly more comfortable and secure.

When I arrived in LIM at 1am, I just used one of the taxi desks. It was $40 to San Isidro. I probably got over-charged but didn't really care too much since I was both exhausted and paying for it with company funds

Update. I just used the hotel remisse service (and they will pick up anyone, not just people for that hotel) just dropped me off at the airport. The trip that cost me US$40 from the airport to the hotel (using HVG, the taxi desk right at the airport) was just US$25 with this service for the exact same trip.

You can contact them via email or phone to pre-arrange a pick up:

I'm planning on spending the best part of a 12 hour layover in Lima. Would I be able to take an airport taxi somewhere, store my bags, and then go back there and get a remisse back to the airport? What would be a good hotel to do this?

LIM taxi

All taxis that enter the airport area at LIM are checked for documents (license, insurance, etc.) and are not permitted to enter without.
In addition, they are subject to penalties should they get busted without docs.Hence, if they are in the airport, they are legit.

Experienced travelers with a little Spanish and haggling skills can score cheap rides out of the airport by going directly to the drop off area straight out front, and getting a cab that has just dropped off a fare.

Check prices inside the terminal and cut them in half to start.

Speed and discretion will work to your advantage, so as not to rile up the taxis waiting in line.

Thanks for Mentioning Lima Cabs

TheBeerHunter: Thanks for mentioning Lima Cabs. Based upon your recommendation, I used Lima Cabs for airport transportation and a tour. As you said, Edward was very professional. He provided great info on the area.
