SEATTLE: Need to Kill Time
Hello,
I'll be arriving at SEA at around 1000, have a meeting at 1500 (to last for an hour), and leave at around 1900 from SEA. Will have a rental car. Seen the nearby falls, not exactly interested in nature sightseeing. Any recommendations? |
Some more information would be helpful, like what you are interested in and what part of town your meeting is.

Interests... I'm pretty much open to anything, something that's a must see/do. |
Walk around Pike Place Market &/or visit the Space Needle. Those are probably the two most well known Seattle Landmarks.
|
Space Needle & Experience Music Project are both in the Seattle Center, which is very close to the Westin. Pike's Place Market is a nice way to kill some time too. The bus system downtown is free during the day, so you could hop on a bus heading south and then walk downhill a few blocks to the Market.
|
Pike Market would be my pick, too. You can park your car somewhere between the Market and the Westin and walk to the Market, take a cab to your meeting and then walk back to the car, if you like. Seattle is a surprisingly easy city to walk, despite the large inclines on the streets.
While at Pike Market, grab lunch at Emmett Watson's Oyster Pub. It is legendary Seattle seafood, and any local merchant at the Market can direct you there (it is across the street from the Market, but somewhat hidden). You will also be right by the first Starbucks, which may or may not interest you. They usually have some cool street performers outside for entertainment. It doesn't get more Seattle than that! |
Realize that there is quite a bit of traffic during the day on the I-5 - try and take the 99 North instead - only takes 20 minutes to get to the airport that route.
I agree, that Pike Place Market is nice, but if you enjoy art there are a few museums in Seattle as well. Would help us out if you name your interests. |
is your meeting downtown?
Weather permitting, lunch and walking around on the waterfront before the meeting and then Pike Place for an hour after the meeting. Weather not permitting... Museum of Flight before the meeting, and Kells and/or The Tasting room next door after the meeting. |
