PAE - Ease of travel in/out?

Thinking about flying Alaska/Horizon Air LAX-PAE for the Boeing Factory Tour/PAE/SEA mini-DO March 22-24, 2019.

However, it appears that public transportation options (especially on the weekend) are challenged and no on-site rental car companies so far.

Any folks fly in/our of PAE with feedback/recommendations?

Thanks!

David

Well, service doesn't start until March 4 (delayed due to the federal government shutdown) so you're not going to get many first-hand experiences.

I'd imagine that there will be taxis waiting at the terminal and of course there's Uber. There are a couple of rental car agencies within a few miles of the new terminal (Enterprise, Avis, National and Alamo) and I wouldn't be surprised if one or more of them start a kiosk/shuttle service.

You shouldn’t have trouble getting a taxi or rideshare, unless your flight arrives at an odd hour or there’s sudden high demand. If you’re worried, you could reserve a car service. Uber/Lyft is abundant up there even without the airport.

But yes, in contrast to SEA, public transport at PAE is basically non-existent. SEA is a much larger airport. It has light rail to downtown and more for a few bucks, will 100% have taxis and rideshare at all hours, and has 24/7 shuttle service to all major car rental companies. PAE doesn’t.

If you’re a tourist visiting Seattle, I would recommend SEA. PAE is more for locals who live north of the city for whom SEA is a far drive. Or for people specifically visiting points north of Seattle.

Everett has two transit agencies and both plan to serve PAE.

Everett Transit plans to adjust the routing for bus #8 on 3/31 to enter the terminal loop and it will be a direct service to Everett Station. Currently it takes a 0.5-mi walk out to Airport Rd & 100th St SW and one change of bus to reach Everett Station.

Community Transit, which already runs the Swift Blue Line, an every 10-min (20 min weekend/early/late) limited stop, platform boarding bus that runs NE-SW up-and-down Hwy 99 from Everett Station down to Edmonds, has been constructing a new Swift Green Line which runs NW-SE and will have a stop at Airport Rd/100th St SW, also 10/20 min frequency, starting 3/24.

I’ll be taking the inaugural UA SFO-PAE then Greyhound/Amtrak up to BC, so I’ve been checking. The two transit agencies just posted the new 3/24 and 3/31 schedules a couple days ago! Too bad on Sunday, the Green SB to Blue NB transfer seems to takes 18 min, if the Blue is on time.

Transit

I'm thinking about taking a quick trip to pae and visit the aircraft museums and maybe the Boeing tour.
Probably will stay at beautiful motel 6 near the airport, and will just need to go back and forth between airport and hotel. I understand that there is bus service along that route, anyone have experience with with this?

I have not, but I think the bus would be fine if it goes near your motel.
I know there is an Everett Transit route 8 that goes to and from the airport.

Motel 6 should be able to provide you with good information.

Can someone clarify how the rental car situation has developed?

Pretty sure it's the same as in May - offsite car rentals with shuttle or van pickup/dropoff.

My excuses, I should have expressed myself more precisely.

I was under the impression that most rental car companies that serve PAE travellers are quite far away from the airport and not really at locations dedicated to serving the airport. Enterprise, however, was advertising a new outlet when PAE opened, hence my asking if this is at a place nearby that unlike, e.g. Avis, does not mean a longish shuttle ride to some place in Everett.

Budget seems to be pretty close, and my trip to/from Enterprise was about the same as going to/from, say, the Seatac Rental Car Center. <shrugs>

Google Maps shows 7 minutes from the terminal to Enterprise. I don't believe the Avis pin on Google Maps - I don't think they have cars right on the airport proper; I think that's just their counter.
