AM not waving change fees for USA (MEX) Argentina despite quarantines

Aeromexico does not (as of yet) have a waiver for Argentina for US-originating tickets.

They have one for Mexico, all their flights go through Mexico (and you have to "enter" Mexico to transit).

But they won't, at least yet, waive a change fee for USA/Argentina, even though I'd be quarantine-bound upon arrival.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm supposed to fly to Argentina this upcoming weekend via MEX on AM. Right now, according to Reuters, the Argentinean government has temporarily stopped issuing visas to US citizens (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-h...-idUSKBN20Z23G). What recourse do you think we have? What are you planning to do?

I've had people post on their Twitter and Instagram feeds (sometimes that gets faster attention). I have almost a week until travel. My ticket has a $200 change fee, so ultimately if there's no waiver, I'll have to eat it and then dispute it later. I am hoping that AM issues a waiver code in the next few days.

I have TIJ-MEX-BOG in one week. I'm trying to contact AM but no luck so far. Not sure if they will waive as they website for waivers due to corona-virus is very confusing.

Finally a new waiver showing on the website:

Flexibility waiver for passengers who purchased their international flights before March 9, 2020

Passengers who have purchased their flights to/from international destinations before March 9, 2020, the following flexibility waiver is presented.

Applicable for passengers with tickets starting with 139, issued before March 9, 2020, flying with Aeromexico or on codeshare flights.

The policy is valid from March 12th, 2020 to October 31st, 2020*.
  • No charges will be applied for departure dates, as long as the route and cabin remain the same. In case there is any difference in the fare between the original ticket and the new ticket, this difference must be paid at the time of making the change.
  • Route change is allowed at no additional cost. In case there is a fare difference between the original ticket and the new ticket, this difference must be paid at the time of making the change.
  • If the passenger decides not to use the service, the ticket is valid for a year from the issue date. The applicable change fee and fare difference will apply for new travel dates.
  • Ticket refunds are applicable according to the terms and conditions of the Branded Fare purchased.

This is ridiculous.

Have you all had any success changing dates/rerotuing?

I booked my trip with an OTA, and I've been hold for well over 6 cumulative hours and counting. I've also tried calling AM but have been disconnected multiple times. I'm now worried that the entire value of my ticket will be lost because I'll be considered a no-show.

My flight is supposed to depart tomorrow afternoon, and at this point, I don't know how to get this situation resolved...

Here is the deal (as of 13 March before 9am PDT). My ticket was issued by a real travel agency. As of earlier this morning, AM is not issuing waiver codes for the travel agencies and says that all "coronavirus" changes must be made through AM. Fine. AM is really running a racket here because they will change it on the phone with you, but do an add/collect if the fare went up (mine was $20, no big deal), and also another $15 for a phone center service fee, which is a royal crock, as there's absolutely no other way that they will permit a change.

It took about 10 tries of pushing 1 and then whatever it asked (and then having to call again), and then a hold time of about 45 minutes, but I finally got an agent to change my booking to June. I didn't have patience anymore to deal with the extra $15 - that might be another day. If you are on real hold, you'll have a lot of promotions and baggage warnings, etc., in Spanish. If the phone is silent for more than a minute or two, you're not on real hold.

Suerte!

Did you go through your TA to make the changes, or did you call AM directly? What I don't want to have happen is me waiting on hold (and/or having to redial) with AM and for them to tell me to contact my OTA directly.

I'd call AM directly. The TA is not supposed to make the changes at least per this morning's rep.

What number did you call? I've been trying almost every number I can find, but I'm just on hold. In other instances, I was just outright disconnected. I'd really appreciate whatever advice you might have.

No other advice. The first several times I tried this morning it didn't even respond when I pushed "1". That means HUCA until it responds.

OMG...When I kept pressing “1” and it wouldn’t respond, I thought the issue was my phone. I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one. This whole situation is wild, and given the increase in call volume, you’d think that AM would increase staffing.

I don’t even know whether it makes sense for me to just show up at the airport and have the ticket office figure this out.

UVAhoo06 Mar 13, 2020 8:49 pm

Finally got in touch with an actual person. Was able to to cancel the flight and use value of ticket toward a future ticket (within one year). They didn't waive the $200 change fee. I'm hoping that a new waiver will be in place that will retroactively apply to my ticket.

Also, thank you so much for advising me to contact AM directly rather than my OTA. You saved me a lot of time and emotional/mental energy.

I have a flight to Lima on March 30th. Not sure if I will even be going or not but AM cancelled my original flight and instead of arriving the same day at 11PM I am arriving the next day at 3 PM. With an overnight in MEX. Will they allow me to cancel and get a full refund due to the schedule change? Not really worried about it from a money perspective as it is corporate paid travel. Just trying to reduce the paperwork I have to do if I have to cancel the trip.
