CAIRO transit times please
I arrive at Cairo and have 2 hours until my local Egyptair flight departs. Is the 2 hours enough to get through immigration and to move from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 to check in and catch local flight?
Any help much appreciated and sorry if wrong place but I couldnt think where else to ask this. cheers. |

I would allow a MINIMUM of 3.5-4 hours to make this connection work, especially as it is booked on a separate ticket. If at possible, I'd book a later connection or at least a fully-refundable ticket, so that if you do miss your flight, you can (pending availability) fly later. If this itinerary is booked on one reservation, on the other hand, I'd worry less, as you would have to be accommodated were you to miss your new flight. |
thanks!!
thank you for that excellent piece of advice. we have not booked the internal flight so will now decide on the one 6 hours after landing.

I think 2 hours is possible but tight. You may have to take a cab from one terminal to another as the public transportation isn't very reliable and can be difficult to figure out.

I just transited CAI today. I wouldn't recommend less than 2 hours, even for a same terminal transit. It would be hard for me to describe how antiquated the processes are there. I felt like I had stepped back in time about 30 years. You are literally stuck sitting in a holding room while they take your passport and do god knows what. I texted my wife and I told her I was in jail.
Since you are transiting between terminals I can't even imagine how complicated it would be. |
Transiting between terminals is a messy affair. After you finish with passport control at Terminal 2 you then reclaim baggage. The problem with T2 is that it's basically designed to handle ONE flight because it's so small.
You then take a bus to Terminal 1. But I recommend making sure it's T1-these people have so many terminals and halls that it's mind boggling. If it's an international flight, then it's definately Terminal 1. If it's local, then ASK WHERE TO GO. Good luck... |
