I've been now on a couple of SA J class, and yes, it is business class. If you are flying intercontinental, there are often several South African civil servants on the flight, getting drunk, and spilling drinks all over. This has happend to me on JNB JFK, JNB IAD, and JNB HKG. Find another airline. The FA's seem to think it's funny

Odd. I've taken loads of intercontinental J flights with SA and never experienced that. Any one else had this?

I haven't but I still prefer other airlines due to their extremely inconsistent service levels on long haul flights (and they seem to be getting worse) and very inconvenient flight times on their CPT - FRA route.

The cherry on top of the cake was a couple of month ago where the 4 to 5 year old daughter of the purserette was climbing all over rows 1 and 2 and the respective passengers on a ZRH - JNB flight. Staff (and the mother) could not be bothered at all.

That's appalling! There are so many things wrong with that scenario it's hard to know where to start. I hope you wrote a strongly worded letter of complaint.

Must agree with capetonian - just back from a trip LHR-CPT-LHR in J out in the 343 and F back. Hard product excellent in both (better than BA or QF) but service in J, while friendly enough, was forgetful and kindoff off-hand. I noticed the other FA in the rear J cabin seemed a lot more switched on. In F the service was excellent. One thing I noticed in both classes was that I had to ask for wine with dinner. Champagne a-plenty, which kept on coming, and when I did ask there was no probs obviously, but I thought they would want to show off some of their very good still wines the way Qantas FAs do.

Just did lhr-cpt (747) and cpt-fra (340) in J. First experience on SA, and I must say - one of the best business class flights (both of them) I've experienced. I guess we got one of the 'good' crews. We were offered wine (too much of it), and the glasses were never, ever, empty - until we finally both passed out. Catering was well above my expectations. My only complaint? The older seats on the 747 were a bit tired. Apart from that - I really couldn't find a fault.

These were reward tickets, booked about 5 months ago.
