Air Namibia
Any feedback on Air Namibia, flying Cape Town- Windhoek - Maun in DEcember... Is business class worth it.... or just Economy with a curtain?
Any feedback appreciated. |
Personally I'd save my money and fly Y.
Two reasons 1. It's a short haul both legs (under 2 hr.) 2. Air Namibia business class product is really showcased on Long Haul International routes only. (the 747) 3. A friend recently returned on those routes and said they were fine in Y. |
Air Namibia, Europe to Africa
Air Namibia, which often has lower-cost service than competitors, now has a Boeing 747-400 doing FRA Frankfurt, Germany - WDH Hosea Kutako International Airport near Windhoek, Namibia service. The aircraft flies in a two-class (if a little weird) configuration, according to the website:
Coach: (3-4-3 seating, 236 seats) has a "MRTC" 34" / 86 cm pitch throughout! Business: This is a real boon for tall people on long trips like FRA - WDH. Lower deck: 2-2 seating, 16 Seats, Seat Pitch 157 cm / 62" pitch Regional services are flown from Windhoek WDH (CPT and JNB, South Africa; Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe; Luanda, Angola and Maun, Botswana are with one of two Boeing 737-200 "classics". Other more local services, e.g. Katima-Mulilo, I suspect, use Beech 1900C, CASA CN-235, Cessna Grand Caravan and Reims Caravan II, and are generally served from Windhoek's Eros ERS airport SUD: 2-2 seating, 32 Seats, 120 cm / 48" pitch Their rather unsophisticated website is here. I am sad they no longer operate their (actually SAA's) Boeing 747SP! :( |
I've flown with them in a Beech 1900C to/from Mokuti, which must be one of the few airports in the world with scheduled flights by a national airline that has no facilities whatsoever, apart from a runway. Check-in is handled by the receptionist at the nearby game lodge.

It makes sense to me - and this is an ex-Asiana aircraft ( suppose leased in, as prior aircraft.).
It's to obad it's not doing well :( One would hope a rational aircraft on a rational route might make it, but Air Nam may not be here for the 7E7...

Air Namibia is currently offering a "Spring Special" FRA-JNB/CPT via WDH. €572 return in economy, € 1062 in business. The business class fare especially is very competitive. Main conditions :

Costly Boeing 'all but gone'
"AIR NAMIBIA'S flagship aircraft, the Boeing 747-400 Combi, is set to fly its last commercial flight for the national carrier on Wednesday next week.
In a week's time, a Boeing 747-300 aircraft from South African Airways will arrive in Namibia to service the route to Germany in place of the Jumbo. Air Namibia will lease the aircraft until October, by which time it hopes to have entered into a long-term lease agreement for at least one Airbus A340-300 in accordance with its new business plan. A second Airbus aircraft will be required to reintroduce a London flight. The aircraft being leased from SAA will be able to carry about 50 more passengers than the Boeing 747-400 does at present - with a capacity of 333." Source johan |
