Questions about booking one way ticket on Ethiopian airlines
 

Hi guys,
I booked an one way reward ticket on Ethiopian Airlines from Chicago to Kilimanjaro by using aeroplan miles, and I purchased a return ticket on Ethiad from Dar to JFK. Someone just warned me I may not be able to check in in Chicago since I only have an one way ticket to Tanzania on Ethiopian Airlines. Does anyone know if the ground staff in Chicago will give me hard time since I don't have a return ticket on Ethiopian.
I have booked one way tickets many times to other destinations in Europe and Asia, and I never had any problem to check in and board the plane. A lot times the staff at check in counter didn't even ask me to show the return flights (or flights leaving the country).

It doesn't matter which airline the ticket is on, as long as you meet the immigration criteria for the destination.

You will be fine - have your departure information available (I like to print it out rather than hand over my phone). I often book separate one-ways into and out of countries - they will often make a note of the ticket-number of my return trip when checking me in.

You can fly whatever airline you want, doesn't matter if it's a single ticket or separate. The only time you might get given a hard time is if you are departing from a different country than landing in, for example if you were doing both the Serengeti and Masai Mara and leaving from Nairobi. Usually though any reasonable agent would acknowledge it's not difficult at all to go overland and wouldn't give any hassle. In your case all you need to do is be prepared to show your onward itinerary, however in my own experience, ET has not often checked me in similar situations.

Try explaining that to some minimum wage contract worker who thinks otherwise.

The others are right, you should not have an issue as long as you have any return ticket. In the end, this is determined by the Tanzanian VISA requirements. And to be granted a visa on arrival (which you are probably going for) you need to present a ticket which shows you are leaving Tanzania.
However, to my knowledge ETIHAD stopped flying out of DAR in Oct last year. So I assume this must be a code-share flight and not actually ETIHAD?
