Ethiopian Long-Haul Aircraft with Flat Bed Seats
(UPDATED 05NOV23)

TOTAL : 59 aircraft - 49 with fully flat beds, 10 with 160-angled flat

At least 50+ aircraft with WiFi. WiFi has now been installed on almost all 787s in addition to the 777/350 fleet.

Check back within 48 hours when the actual aircraft is allocated and the seatmap may change. If row 11 shows seats ABC-DEF-JKL, then you have the old configuration. If it shows only seats JKL for row 11, then it is the new configuration.

According to ET's official sources, this has already been done (which it hasn't), so I highly doubt they will get down to doing it anytime.

Just out of curiosity, if someone buy a business flight which according to them should be lie flat, but find out it is not. Can he or she sue them?

You can sue anyone for any reason. Whether you have a case that is likely to win is another story.

That's something his lawyer would need to advise him. ET does not advertise lie flat seats on all aircraft in any case (and technically the seats are flat on all the 787s, just inclined at 160-degrees angle to the horizontal).

The 9th Airbus 350-900 has joined the fleet this past weekend, making it the 45th longhaul passenger aircraft and 99th overall in the fleet. The 100th aircraft is expected next month and much fanfare seems to be planned around that.

All the A350s are equipped with the flat bed seats.

Back when KL introduced an improved J cabin (not lie-flat, but increased recline and pitch, the latter by 20" or so) they launched a massive advertising campaign, even though it was going to take several years to get all their longhaul aircraft refitted.

A passenger who got the old cabin complained and was fobbed off. He then sued, and won.

They never said they were updated, but they said that they have initiated the process. Plans and extent change as the market and business evolves. Two already done, a third one in progress. The ATWOnline article was not factual, so maybe its a reporter's integrity you are questioning.

This is of value to discuss. The three aircraft are owned by ET, and these are also the ones that received winglets years ago. The rest are on lease and may very well be at EOL especially given the addition to the ET fleet as of late.

The condition of carriage for Ethiopian (and I assume many airlines) has stipulations that the product or aircraft can be swapped out. Ethiopian's condition of carriage states:

Nope, sorry.

This all happened sometime in the late 90s, if I remember correctly. I recall reading newspaper reports that described the court hearing as a battle between David and Goliath. KLM had apparently shown up with a legal team of five, but lost the case. I think the court was the rechtbank in Haarlem. The aggrieved businessman was from Aerdenhout or Bloemendaal, so he could presumably afford to take on the airline, and was upset enough to do so.

Ethiopian took delivery of its 100th aircraft last night, their 3rd Boeing 787-9, registered ET-AUQ.

This aircraft also has the flat bed seats in case anyone is wondering.

With 2 Trent engines, we won't be seeing it in North America any time soon.

And the flight path had only a 1200 mile bit of ocean to cross (from Greenland to Norway). I believe there are several airports capable of handling a full size airliner on that route..

I will be flying Cloud 9 LAX to DUB on ET# 505 in May '2019 on 787-8 Dreamliner. Seatguru shows 180 degree lay flat seats when you click on the individual seat, yet their overall description of the seats says 160 degree angle. Which is it ? Hoping for the 180 lay flat. Thank you.
