Beyond it being a 787, it's way too early to tell.

Are there seats that are good regardless of the 787 configuration?

I read that seats in row 1 have more foot space Is that true for both configurations?

How do I tell by the seat map which configuration it is? I know that B747-347B says we only know 2 days in advance, but how do I recognize whether it has flat or angled seats?

Economy seat map gives it away. If row 11 has a full row of seats it is the old config. If row 11 is only 11JKL then it is the AS*/AT* config.

Remarkably brave of you considering the flight transits via Abidjan and the Cote D'Ivoire elections are scheduled for that month (with a fairly poor track record of peaceful elections and a history of gun battles at the airport).

Not bravery. Ignorance. Thank you for the information.

Had an equipment change and ended up on one of the 767-300's (ET-ALP) - First time in J on one of the 767's since they put in the newer seats.

Great foot space, and the IFE screens on there are really slick looking. But that's about where the positives ended for the hard product. Service was great though.

I found the seats to be quite uncomfortable when seated, though fine when in lay-flat mode. Though the transition from seating to lay-flat was very loud and clunky
IFE was provided by a streaming service that one supposedly could access on the screens or on their own personal device (Essentially the same as what they had put on the 737MAX). Screens, though large and seemingly of exceptional quality, were actually pretty useless. There was a technician on the flight moving people around because either the screens weren't working / touch wasn't working or the remotes were shoddy (or in some cases had been torn off).

Overall, despite a newish-looking appearance, really seemed to be falling into disrepair rather quickly. Glad I was only on it for 5 hours and not an overnight.

I've got GRU-ADD-SIN coming up in business class.
It looks like they'll be on the 787.
From reading this thread it seems that with the old angled seats row 2 or 3 would be best. With the newer lie flat seats, row 1 would be best with the extra leg room.
Is there any way I can tell which aircraft I have 2 days out.
What are people's strategy for selecting seats when it is uncertain which seats you will actually get?

See the answer provided above by B747-437B:
Economy seat map gives it away. If row 11 has a full row of seats it is the old config. If row 11 is only 11JKL then it is the AS*/AT* config.
Usually loaded around 48 hours before.

I usually stick to row 2 or 3... just because it will be fine no matter what.

My strategy is usually to stay on window seat on either row 2 or 3 on old config and row 2, 3 or 4 on new config. (avoid first and last rows)
Tweak at airport check-in to move to a seat without someone on the isle side.
Row 1 has IFE too far, and has less windows for the row.
Last row (row 4 for old or row 5 on new config) also has less windows, and the galley right behind you, as well as having only A seat available (opposite side has the pilots rest area blocked off).

Thank you to you both.
Sorry for the further stupid questions. Where do I check the seat map? I usually select seats using the Lufthansa site as it works well. Will I be able to see the economy seat map when my seat is in business?

Is the advantage of the extra leg room in row 1 in the new config not worth it?

IMO, it is definitely worth it! I guess it depends on how tall you are.

Updated the wiki with info about the new Reverse Herringbone seats.

These are installed so far on 787-9s from ET-AXS onward and A350s from ET-AYA onwards, but supposedly will be installed on those aircraft who have had seats stripped out as pax freighters. Presently installed on 4 aircraft (AXS/AYA/B/C) of which only AXS is in regular service though.

According to SimplyFlying the 789 and 350 Business class seats are different: https://simpleflying.com/ethiopian-t...usiness-class/

Also, ET-AYA and ET-AYB, the 350s, went into service the day after they were delivered.

ET-AYC, a 789 remains parked since delivery on October 1.

When did ET-AXS get the new configuration installed? Was it delivered back in March with this configuration?
