Ethiopian Airlines beginning ADD-LAX service

The 788 service via Dublin in both directions begins 19 June 2015.

Just snagged two J seats from ADD to LAX for early January (unfortunately only Y from JNB to ADD). It's a long way off but after reading some about the 787 J service, I'm looking forward to it (beats the other alternative I was considering, Emirates in paid Y). We are both 6'3-6'4, so room trumps service anyway...

On the westbound, will they be doing pre-clearance at DUB or arriving at LAX as international?

It will be purely a refueling stop at DUB, just as ET does now at FCO.

Keep in mind it is not a lie flat in J, not even an angled lie flat.

Depends which aircraft. Different 787s have different seats.

Not at the moment. I spoke to the manager a few weeks ago at the travel exhibition in Dublin and he said they would like it but there are some issues to be sorted out.

They are looking to pick up any traffic they can get both USA and Ireland to Africa and from Ireland-USA and vv. I hope it works for them it is quite a decent product.

Likely they would have to pay the airport some user charge if the passengers deplane. Keeping them on the plane is probably cheaper.

I am not surprised. I think they shopped around to find a market where they could get passenger rights and no non-stop competition.

The latest 787 ET-ASG has fully lie flat seats.

What's surprising is that you didn't know this sooner; it was announced months ago.
