That's the first hurdle. At least they're down safely.

So glad they landed safely. Now hoping for a peaceful resolution.

I see UA148 from EWR is due in to Geneva in about 45 minutes. Maybe a FTer on board will post about it?

"Pilots heard on radio stating they will be exiting via the aircraft flight deck window."

Sounds like perhaps the hijackers never breached the cockpit?

How freaky is this that we are watching and listening in real time? I watched cockpit view as they landed and have been listening to ATC which has gone eerily silent since the pilots reported leaving via the window.

The captain leaves behind passengers? Really?

Or the pilots have checked baggage and don't want to wait for the jetway?

What kind of exit do they make in a situation like this? I mean, they're a bit high off the ground, aren't they?

If the pilots did leave, then there is no one left in the cockpit to talk. And likely they were the only ones on that frequency.

Also it sounded like all the hijacker wanted was asylum, which would make a happy ending much more likely.

Ethiopian Flight 702 (ADD-FCO) Possibly Hijacked--Diverted to GVA

You guys following this ET702 situation?

It just broke on twitter in the last 30-40 mins, no mainstream media is covering it yet.

Apparently a Ethiopian 767 operating ADD-FCO was "hijacked" and forced to divert to GVA, but if you can tell from the flightradar track:

http://www.flightradar24.com/ETH702/2ba40ab

It circled quite a bit before landing.

It's landed now, stopped on the runway, but no further details yet

Is it possible authorities have asked them to come out so that they can help in assessing the situation? Sounds like perhaps they were directed to do this.

If the flight deck was never breached then it would be the perfect ingress point for an assault, but one would want the crew out of the way.

Since this aircraft likely had no wifi, and if it's possible to use a cell jammer, the hijacker would have no way of knowing what's being planned outside and going through the flight deck windows would allow for the element of surprise as opposed to one of the regular cabin doors.
