Favorite Hotel In Hallstat, Austria

I was just wondering what your experiences have been in staying in the unique, quint Austrian village of Hallstat. Do you have a special place, as we do, that we return every year? Why? :)

Have been to Hallstatt several times and it truly is a beautiful spot (oldest town in Austria if I remember correctly). I've never stayed overnight there - opting for a Gasthof at St. Wolfgang (or to be more precise, in Reid - a few blocks west of St. Wolfgang). Highly recommend the Gasthof Falkensteiner - charming rooms - lake views and the Falkensteiners are exceptionally delightful hosts. Meals are superb.

Thanks for the tip on Reid. Unless the train from Saltzburg goes through the village I guess I have missed visiting. We always spend the New Year in Hallstatt. Great quite place to just "kick-back" fro a few days. By the way, can you advise how far it is to Reid from Hallstatt by auto? Do you know is Reid (or St. Wolfgang, which I seem to remember) is served by train?

I did not get to stay in Hallstatt this year during my two visits to Austria in December from the US. So sad I missed it due to time limitations although I did spend several days in Salzburg. Lovely, but of course much busier than Hallstatt.

We are planning another visit to Hallstat area for this year and I just wanted you to know that basis your post we are considering your suggestion of Reid. Any special thoughts on particularly attractive rooms at Gasthof Falkensteiner?

Thanks
