Scandic Friends tracking
AFAIK, most hotel chains determine loyal customer status by counting qualifying nights in a calendar year. Once a threshold is reached, status is granted for the rest of the calendar year (if not requalifying from the previous year) and the next one.
But Scandic Friend seems to count differently, at least for re-qualifying. I just can't figure out exactly how. Does anybody understands their method? |

We calculate your qualifying nights and base points for the past 12 months and if you earned enough, you will level up. Your qualifying period is between today and 12 months back. There is a circled i on ones level which shows the information. But yes, very confusing. |

Its on a rolling 12 months, the nights/points drop off after 12 months, then one has a new target. If you manage to level up in that time, then you stay at that level for 12 months.

I do like the vouchers available per night with Scandic, 5,10 and 15 Euro or local equivalent per night, depending on tier.
Plus the ability to spend points at the hotel on beverages. Overall with the lack of IHG (my main go to chain), it works well for me. I did stay in a Nordic once, and enrolled in the club, but prefer Scandic for the above. |

I used to be top tier with Scandic around the time when they transitioned to their current program must have gotten that via a promotion, status match or something else because Scandic hotels have only been a back up for me since the Hilton-Scandic break-up. The last time I had any Scandic floor elite status and used the status was for some free access for a horse race event. Not sure Scandic are doing as much with those kind of things as they used to do. Their properties are at least selectively better now than they used to be when Hilton was associated with them. Nordic Choice gives 75 to 125 SEK vouchers depending on elite status tier, but the 75/125 SEK voucher benefit is not applicable to the subset of Clarion hotels noted as Clarion Collection hotels. After 5 nights within the membership year starting on account opening day/month, its the 75 SEK food and drink voucher benefit per night; and this benefit lasts for the remainder of the membership year in which the status was earned plus the following membership year. |

How are Scandic with upgrades nowadays?.
Was 6 nights away from top tier on Oct 14th, now the goal post has moved to 13 nights by Nov 6th, which I will fall short of by 5 or 6 nights again..So close but so far.. Thanks for the info on Nordic, looks like a good back up for the future. |

For a level 3 They seem to be quite good, depending on occupancy. I book the cheapest available and have had some nice upgrades. But to be honest I dont expect anything as its all work-based stays, and anything else is just a bonus.

Thanks for the info on Nordic, looks like a good back up for the future. Good to know they are good about upgrades. I’m very satisfied with Nordic Choice Club Platinum benefits — but it’s got a 60 night qualification threshold. I have no experience with the following, but if you’re eligible for Swedish credit cards, then you may want to look into the Nordic Choice Club credit card as it make status acquisition and retention a lot easier: https://sebkort.com/sv/se/nordic-cho...ub-mastercard/ Nordic Choice seems to be pretty good toward Golds too. And between keeping the credit card and 6 nights, it seems like it should be easy to get and then keep Nordic Choice Gold status. Amusingly, it’s one of my two most used Nordic Choice properties which has been the most inconsistent with upgrading me while the rest of the Nordic Choice hotels are extremely good to me about doing what they can with regard to upgrades. I think in large part that property staff at that place knows I don’t really care about them upgrading me when I show up; that and they can’t really do much more for me given my tendency to book them in the late evening for same-day/night check-in. |
Not Swedish based so no CC.
One more comment on Scandic, it is possible to double dip with Fin Air, 500pts per night and still get hotel points by giving the number when checking in. One can also get 500 SAS Euro points, but if choosing this, no hotel points are awarded. |
If anyone is interested there is a short time promo.
You will earn double nights on stays until November 6. This means that you can reach the next membership level faster. Arrived via email, but is available on the website in the my pages section. |
Oh what fun Scandic Friends is...
Midnight Saturday at last I made Top Level, so given status until end of November 2023. So looks like a rolling year, and not to end of year plus the following year. Sunday morning (approx 6 hours later) downgraded to Level 3, with a new target of 3 more nights to reach Top Level.. So emailed the members email address, suggesting that their late posting of nights had messed up. Then received instant upgrade back to Top Level same day..and its still showing. Very friendly emails from them, so have asked about the magical ''Red Level''..lets wait and see, if what the targets are.. Over the next week or so, I will stay at various Scandics in and around Bergen and report back what the '' Free Gift'' is as a Top Level member. Im actually very chuffed to have made it. (cant find the smug emoji).. |
So one year on from making top level.
Gifts, typically a bag of a few sweets. My year of top tier was due to finish end of November 2023. Managed to stay 44 nights, (boosted by some double nights promotions) 45 is the requirement. Pleasantly surprised to seen my top tier status has been extended to Dec 2024. |
Scandic is such a dump in many cities for latest years downhill going. I still having 3rd floor even if my stays are 0-5/a, only in places where there is no option.
