What Credit Card do you guys use for non-chain stay?
So... I have the usual suspect hotel cards, Marriott and Hilton Amexs, as I don't credit enough spend to other chains to justify holding, say, an IHG card.
However.... When outside of the major chains, what cards do you guys carry and use? I'm thinking small independent hotels here. (including internationally) and/or the major casino operators. (Vegas conferences... No choice there.) I usually just credit to cash back or my airline card. |
Not just for non-chain stays, but also for chains where I don't carry the hotel card (such as WyndhamRewards and Best Western), I virtually always use my Citi TYP Premier card, which earns 3x on "the broadest definition of travel" including hotels and gas. And it only carries a $95 annual fee (after the first year). It has about a dozen airline transfer partners (mostly foreign ones).

Chase Sapphire Reserve is another option at 3 UR rewards points for hotel charges.
I use a Costco card, 3x on travel and 3x on restaurants worldwide. The $120 annual fee pays for itself, so I count it as a no-fee credit card.
CSR unless using Amex Centurion Travel booking in which case Amex.
Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP.)
I make virtually all of my spending on the BA Fermium Amex card - great for miles (if you travel BA)
I book non-chain hotels through hotels.com/venture and use the CapitalOne VentureOne card - I get a free night after 10 paid via hotels.com WelcomeRewards + 10 points per $ spent from CapitalOne - that's roughly 20% rewards rate, better than any chain/credit card reward....
