Booking Sleep Inns on the Internet

Has anyone else found ridiculously high rates when trying to book a Sleep Inn on the Internet? I've never stayed in one of the hotels, but there's one in a little town we will be visiting in about seven months. The other (reputable) hotel in town is a Hampton Inn with a $65 triple-A rate. The Sleep Inn has three or four room types, starting at $120/night (AAA) and going up to $175/night (rack rate). I *know* there should be $50 rooms in this motel. (I'm talking basic weekend nights, not on a holiday or anything.)

So what's the deal? Is the website screwy? Or are Sleep Inns really, really expensive - even in little towns next to the highway?

I've found some wierd things like this lately too. Over the past several months I have grown uninterested in the Choice Hotels chain.

They've completely restructed the frequent stay program, virtually eliminating the 6,000 point award. I am told ( and I have found one hotel as evidence) that the majority are still 6,000 points.....I really doubt it.

I'd contact the hotel directly and see what is up. Try an alternate date. it is possible that the hotel is booked for the night you want to stay and the only room left is a suite or something.
