Hi,
We were denied boarding on VY 3510 at the airport, and were issued new boarding passes for VY 3520.
According to the VY agent at the counter, it was due to overbooking.
We arrived at our destination over 5h after the original schedule arrival. So we are entitled to 250 euros as per EC261.
However, we only have our original boarding passes, and the new boarding passes. We were not given any other document re: overbooking.
I assume we will have to push hard to get compensation.
Any advice?

You don't need a confirmation of overbooking/denied boarding or other documentation; all should be noted in your reservation if the agent did his/her job properly.
Research on the VY website how to make a claim and then submit a claim online; keep it short and no need to attach any documents initially (only if asked for it by VY). This should be straight forward claim for denied boarding.

Should be straightforward. Claim on the VY website first.
Keep it very very simple. Facts only. Nobody cares about any real or imagined hardship about arriving 5+ hours late and it will just confuse the reader (for whom English is a second or third language).
PSA. You can check-in online for Vueling 7 days in advance of your flight. If you'd done so, you would almost certainly not been the unlucky passengers...

VY customer service replied to us.
They asked to open a different claim for delay, which does not make sense to me. Our original flight was on time (denied boarding), the later flight we boarded was only delayed by 1h.

I think you have two claims. One for the denied boarding and a second for a delay to your arrival because of that.
What was the difefrence between the schedule arrival of your original booked flight and your rebooked one?

There is no double claim/claim for delay also. The claim for compensation is for denied boarding and the compensation is described in art. 7 (can be reduced by 50% if arriving only slightly delayed with the new flight; this is not the situation here).
There is no relevant delay of the rebooked flight.

Quick update:
Vueling confirmed that they would send compensation.
I have just received a link to provide my bank details.
It has been a fairly smooth process, given that I only had to email VY twice.
Thank you all.
