Highs and Lows with Aurigny
On tuesday morning Southern Hampshire ground to a halt due to numerous accidents and a suicide attempt on a motorway bridge. Bottom line being a normal 30 minute drive to Southampton turned into a 2 and half grind. SOU - GCI due to depart at 1030 with gates closing 45 mins prior. Not expecting any good fortune I presented myself with hold luggage at 1010, resolved at best they might get me on a later flight at some cost. No, proactive Duty Manager is at check in. Waves his wand pushed a few buttons and I and hold baggage board at 1025, with takeoff bang on time at 1030. Very Well Done Aurigny.
Today I present at GCI for 0915 flight in good time. Very foggy conditions numerous delays and cancellations apparently there were a lot of knock on delays from similar conditions yesterday.Further updates will follow etc. fog clears and a few aircraft land and depart. then told "that plane over there on the apron" is going to JER and back and then will be the delayed SOU service estimating a 1400 departure. We wait and nothing, no updates no sign of the promised aircraft. Subsequently a Flybe service operates to SOU and there was clearly space on it. 30 minutes after this the original 0915 service status changes to cancelled citing lack of crew. Did they not realise this before the departure of the Flybe service? Upshot being we were rebooked on the 1830 SOU flight, which eventually departing at 1840, on a 80 seater plane with 19 passengers! And to top it all no compo due as a non eu carrier, not even a £5 voucher! Heroes to Villains in 72 hours. Sorry Rant Over. |

Although Guersey is indeed outside EU, I think Aurigny do follow EC261 regulations: see sections 9 and 11 of Aurigny Conditions of Carriage. Disclaimer: I have no personal experience with Aurigny.
They use the words 'when appicable' before mentioning EU261. |
