Downward trend at flybe
Afternoon all.
Yes i know we have a next potential airline to go thread but I think that flybe deserves its own thread.
Recently another poor poor poor set of results and the share price is about as low as it can go
https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/739504/Flybe-share-price-airline-UK-flights-Exeter-Southampton-shares/amp
down 64% in the last couple of weeks.
Surely they have to be to be a contender for a takeover ?
could we see IAG strike a deal here ?
The current model seems seems to be failing but they do have the benefit of feeding into existing IAG bases, DUB, LGW, LCY, LHR
could we potentially see IAG snap up flybe, perhaps rebrand it to IAG regional, run BA, IB and EI codes, feed AA etc at MAN etc ?
would be ironic if it did happen considering BA sold the majority of bacon to flybe
but considering the current share price stranger things have happened

Aside from sharing Avios as a currency, Flybe has no connection to BAEC or particularly BA. We'll move this over to our "Other European Airlines" forum.

I'm guessing in order for the low cost model to be profitable you have to use much larger aircraft than the ones Flybe have. Hence why I can't see IAG being interested in taking them over.

I’ve flown a lot with them in the past few years. They fly some very handy routes and if they go bust and the routes
disappear that’s bad news for travellers, staff and communities. But their point-to-point model with smaller aircraft isn’t working it seems. The lack of a decent (any?) FFP doesn’t help - when I have the option to take EasyJet or BA instead, I do. FlightClub/Plus and BAEC are useful to me. With FlyBe it’s just a seat.

i agree. I also use them semi regularly for work purposes and if they vanish these routes are unlikely to be taken up by anyone else.
Just one point however, flybe ditched their own ff program a few years ago and now use Avios as it’s reward platform

But it’s not really an FFP. It’s just a kick back of a few Avios on each ticket booked. I can get Avios spending on a credit card or shopping at Tesco. I’d like to see some benefits for those who fly regularly. Priority boarding, increased ticket flexibility, lounge access, priority for IRROPs ... Flybe have none of that. So on a route with a choice, I choose another airline.

They sold the 14.6% stake for around Ł12-14m (judging by the value booked in the IAG annual reports), they could now buy the whole airline for about Ł25m. Would stripping out the Exeter HO overhead and running the operation from Waterside make it profitable? They could also benefit from better network coordination and sale of connecting flights from LGW. Maybe.

Stripping out the BE HQ and running it from the BACF HQ (which I think is in Manchester?) might make some sense. But most of the planes are the wrong size for BACF operations I’d guess...
BACF = BA CityFlyer
BACF = BA CityFlyer

"Downward trend", indeed...
Plane drops 500ft in 18 seconds after error
The pilot of a Flybe plane that dropped 500ft (152m) in 18 seconds had selected the wrong autopilot setting shortly after take-off, an inquiry has found.

Another alternative that could possibly work is Airline Investments Limited - Added into BMI reginal & Logan networks some operational and management savings could well be made. Plus it would be good to see BMI back at LHR.
