I agree that DY ground service is often lacking. They are often delayed, and you can't expect the level of service as you can from network airlines. But you get what you pay for, and DY are far better than the worst low cost airlines.

Thumbs down Norwegian

Try to report a ripped bag to norwegian, to do so I need a report from the ground staff done at arrival, picked up my nephew on Friday 8/23 flight was late and he came out at midnight when he showed me his bag we tried to locate a ground staff but there was none. Called the airline and they said I had to call back Monday and speak to the luggage department. Called back today and there was not such a department to speak to only booking staff. We're told to submit claim by mail but I would need the claim form from JFK. Told them that there was no staff from Norwegian there. I had tried to contact the staff earlier on Friday when the plane was not listed at 8 pm checked their website but it stated it was no flight arriving. So now when I told the person on the phone that I did not have a report since there was no rep Friday night he then stated " yes u understand the plane was late and the staff scheduled work hours was past so they was not allowed to work longer hours due to the regulations" I told him that was the dumbest I had heard since in US employees are allowed to work overtime. I understand the reason that norwegian flagged their long haul aircrafts on Ireland was so the staff could work longer hours then under Norwegian law. So now I have to eat the cost of the broken luggage. Maybe I take them to small claims like judge Judy or Millian.

Greetings Millemus. Based upon your posting, we believe you are referring to Norwegian Airlines. Your query will be automatically forwarded to a forum tied to that airline.

Just file a damaged luggage report within 7 days of arrival, its crucial you hit the time limit!

Damaged baggage
Norwegian handles its passengers’ baggage with care. All the same, we cannot be held liable for damage sustained from normal wear and tear. In addition, we cannot be held liable for damage to baggage due to the negligence or wrongful act of the passenger.

If your baggage has been damaged during your flight with Norwegian, you must present your travel document, bag tag/tag receipt, and the damaged item to our handling agents at the airport promptly and at the latest, 7 days after arrival. We will create a report and provide information about how your claim will be handled. We do not cover damaged items that are not presented at least 7 days after arrival.

Norwegian has an agreement with all Accent, Morris and City Bag stores in Norway and in Sweden. Bring your travel bag and the damage report from the airport to one of these retailers as they will assist you.

If damage is not covered by the Carrier, the item should nevertheless be reported promptly and at the latest, 7 days after arrival. A damage report will be provided which can be used for a claim with your private travel insurance provider.

All claims must be sent by post and include the original report provided at the airport, documentation on the value/age of the damaged baggage and your bank account details (IBAN, BIC/Swift code, account holder’s name and address).

I suspect that Norwegian uses the services of a baggage handling company at JFK. Asking for "Norwegian" ground/handling staff is likely to get you nowhere - as you have already discovered.

Ring the US number (1-800-357-4159 (24 hours)) and ask them who does the ground/baggage handling for them at JFK. There are several companies who provide ground/baggage handling services for various airlines, and you just need to find which is the one you need to deal with. These are the people you should be talking with, and they should always be there at the airport, not just when the Norwegian flight(s) are arriving/departing. But then again, it might be difficult to find them. Best to try and get them on the phone, once you know who you should be speaking to.

It looks like you would need another trip to the airport, with the damaged bag and all travel documents, to obtain the claim form. That's an awful lot of hassle. At this stage, it is up to you if it is worthwhile pursuing the claim.

Norwegian's expansion of service to the US

What will Norwegian's expansion of service, as described in the link below, mean for SAS's long-haul service to/from the US?

Norwegian's expansion of service to the US

Competition is obviously good, though at this point I'm seriously concerned if SAS has the juice to put up a fight.

As low end as SK offering across the pond may be, DY is trying to top that with their business model. I think everything but the use of the lav costs extra and the seats are super cramped from the 788 reports I read. SK is definitely going to loose the low end of the market. But OTOH has that market not already left some years ago??

If only DY were flying CPH-MCO rather than OSL-MCO! But this is great news as I imagine a connection in OSL is better than the alternatives.
