Arrow TAP Air Portugal [TP] new routes and changes (later 2018 onward)

per TP press release on the OPO expansion + FLR from LIS there is a footnote that Nouakchott will be the next destination to be launched (still 2018 as the press release if from late 2017)
Next year the company intends to offer flights between Lisbon and Nouakchott, capital of Mauritania, a service that is currently awaiting government authorisation.
On an separate note, if Malabo was ever mulled this is probably the time for TP to go for it:
per airline route
oneWorld member Iberia this month is ending service on Madrid – Malabo route, as the airline closed reservation last week. Last flight is scheduled to depart Madrid on 21JAN18, Malabo on 22JAN18. This route is currently served by Airbus A319, 4 times a week.

IB3327 SSG0715 – 1320MAD 319 x234

These are interesting news. Any leaked intel on what bird they'll put on the route? When will airbus deliver the 12 A350 units TP ordered?

It'll be the 330neo. They switched the A350 order to A330neo when Neeleman bought TP.

I can't say I'm excited. Crappy service and uncomfortable seats and pricing that won't be super competitive vs. Level .... maybe I'll change my mind on this, but right now I'm not so sure I'll be taking LIS-SFO non-stop.

Oh, right. Somehow forgot about that.

You're most definitely not alone. I'm actually wondering about who will fill those cabins, especially in C.

Great news, and isn't SATA / Air Aores starting (or recently started) a flight to OAK (or is it SJC) from Ponta Delgada (or is it Terceira)? LOL anyway from somewhere in the Azores to somewhere in the SF Bay Area although I think it may only be once per week.

They've had the route to OAK for ages.

Also in the news the recently appointed CEO announced the new routes for 2019. Besides the above three they should be [PT only]
As of June
Tenerife, Naples, Montreal, Chicago, Washington e San Francisco
As of July
Conakry
Brussels (from Porto)
As of September:
Banjul
Lyon e Munich (from Porto)

No date specified, but OPO-EWR will be daily
He mentions he would like to have OPO get more connecting traffic

Also in the article the CEO acknowledges on time performance is a shame. And he mentions the on time performance (best in BR according to him) as a badge of honor

Banjul would be useful before September

Not sue I'd want to fly them to SFO when there are more attractive options from BCN.

TP announced IAD and ORD
TAP Air Portugal aims to double operations in North America in the next years and is expanding again, adding two new routes to the United States in 2019 with nonstop service from Lisbon, to Washington, DC and Chicago. The 73-year-old national carrier has been breaking records in the last few years, boarding more than 14 million customers in 2017 and being named one of 2018’s 10 fastest growing carriers.

TAP will commence five round-trip flights per week between Chicago O’Hare and Lisbon on June 1, 2019, and then add five weekly round-trips between Washington-Dulles and Lisbon on June 16.

Flights will depart Chicago at 6:05PM, arriving in Lisbon at 7:50AM (next day). Returning flights leave Lisbon at 1:05PM, arriving at O’Hare at 4:05PM. From Washington, flights will depart at 10:40PM, arriving in Lisbon at 10:50AM (next day). Returning flights leave Lisbon at 4:30PM, arriving at Dulles at 7:40PM.

IAD-LIS route will begin the service in June.

The airline will operate five round-trip flights per week between Dulles and Lisbon, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The Dulles flights will depart at 10:40 p.m. each day.

TAP will operate the route on the new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, with 21 planned for delivery to the airline over the next two years.
