Interesting that they're making this a triangle route instead of a point to point. I remember they once had this in Europe with LIS-PRG-BUD-LIS until they cut BUD, though I guess here the difference in flight time is only about an hour or so.

Interestingly, this will result in twice daily flights from LIS to ACC on sunday:
TP1529 LIS0945 - 1430ACC
TP1525 LIS1640 – 2125LFW2210 – 2255ACC
And also from ACC to LIS:
TP1528 ACC2225 - 0510+1LIS
TP1525 ACC2355 – 0640+1LIS

Any chance that BA may follow soon as well?

Forgive my ignorance, but I can't see it being a route that's high-yield enough to work from LCY for some reason. Will it get enough pax for TAP to run 2 flights a day and BA to run any more on top of that?

Wonder who's next to sell one (or more) LHR slots for big money then ! ?

When you factor that in I'm sure it might make a lot more sense ... nice addition to the LCY route network anyway - good timings for a weekend break at least

TAP have one of the earliest slots at Heathrow that apparently they tried to offload but no one wants it. All we need now is AF to start A318 flights to LCY...

Doesn't LCY have severe capacity restrictions?
If it didn't im sure many other airlines would love to fly there!
Oh, and a slightly longer runway would help things even more!
500 meters more should be plenty enough for A320's and B737's.

Are the A320 and 737s certified for the steep approach?

I'm pretty sure it's getting a taxiway and ramp expansion soon.

Interesting - there's a fair bit of business travel UK-Portugal at the minute in the finance sector...(banks/funds looking at large non-performing loan books...), but in fact the flight timings for this one seem more geared towards business travel FROM Lisbon to London, not the other way around (which would need an earlier morning departure from LCY and a later return)

My only other guess is that TAP are trying to build on their connecting traffic to Brazil/Angola (oil) and a few other places, which makes some sense from LCY (as KLM have done, pretty successfully I think).

Still...will be interesting to see how this one really performs for them.

TAP has quite an interesting network beyond Lisbon. I use the Manchester service quite a lot, and note a fair number of transfer passengers. Indeed, they'll be taking me to Sao Tome soon ... in an A320

Whether city folk have interests in the airline's portfolio of niche destinations in Brasil and Africa, I don't know.

True, but presumably that is determined in large part by the fact that TAP's aircraft are based in LIS. To have it the other way round, the aircraft and crew would need to night-stop at LCY.

318s only and they require a software mod and an additional push button added to the overhead panel in the cockpit. Plus pilot training.

Main issue at LCY is lack of 318 sized parking spaces - there are only 2/3 iirc right at the east end of the apron, and only one taxiway is approved which presents capacity issues beyond the existing BA JFK service.

Yes, precisely - but the scheduling makes me think TAP must have their eye on connecting traffic or Portugal to U.K. business traffic rather than the UK to Portugal business traffic - the flight times are frankly very poor for them to capture any serious market share on U.K. to Portugal business travel
