does Air China offer standby if I show up earlier at the airport ?
flying HKG - PEK, wondering if they will allow me to take an earlier flight if seats are available. I will be flying economy if that matters. Thank you in advance.

Why not give them a call in advance? If there is an economy class seat available, tell them you want to change your flight, and just pay the difference in the airport.
HKG-PEK flight sometimes very full on CA, becasue large tourist groups occupying 70% of economy seats - and very noisy!
