Air India Seat Assignments

Is it possible to get an advance seat asignment when booking through airindia.com? I've gone all the way to the payment screen and I didn't see it prior to that. Is it done through airindia.com under "reservation status" after you recieve a PNR?

Advance seat requests are only possible for certain seats and on certain routes. This is because of multiple different aircraft configurations within each fleet type. The only seats that can be reserved in advance are similar across the entire fleet.

For more details see http://www.airindia.com/page.asp?pageid=272

I guess I should have included that important information in my OP.

I'm booking EWR-CDG-EWR.

188 seats in the economy class on our flights to/from USA/UK/Europe are available for booking in advance.

We were able to get seat assigments by calling Air India for BKK-DEL-BKK.

Use the 24 hr call center

I found that the call center folks could assign seats in advance even if you cannot use the web. You can use the standard 800 number from the US or call their Indian number. I was able to do this both on reservations made by a travel agent and on tickets purchased on the web (I called the Yatrik cell for reservation made on the web - the number was in the confirmation email).
