New Indonesian Airline - SUPER AIR JET

There's been news of the launching of a new Indonesian airline since September 2020 and has been reported on various news sites. The airline is the brainchild of the Lion Air Group, owner of the infamous LCCs Lion Air and its regional subsidiary Wings Air, as well as the confusingly branded kind-of-full-service Batik Air and Malindo Air.

Well it appears the new airline, named Super Air Jet is due to launch service soon. It is widely rumoured to operate as a low cost carrier, and there have even been speculation that the original, reputation-plagued Lion Air will be replaced by this new entity as a fresh start.

There have been many materials appearing on social media of the airlines' launch as shown below. If these pictures are to be believed, the airline will be based in Jakarta and will initially fly to Palembang (PLM), Padang/Minangkabau (PDG), Medan (Kualanamu) (KNO), and Pekanbaru (PKU) in Sumatra, as well as Pontianak (PNK) in Indonesian Borneo and Lombok (LOP) in the lesser Sunda Islands.

Cabin crew uniforms - looks like a bad version of Starlux Airlines' ground crew uniform

I mean given the bankruptcy of a few airlines in SEA and in Indonesia, a solid and well-thought strategy could do great for the airline's launch. Although I'm having massive doubts and suspicions about this particular airline...

There has been some speculation that the founder of Lion Air is secretly behind this new airline, and hopes to have it as a getaway vehicle of sorts from the Lion Group, which apparently said to be embroiled in a lot of financial trouble (in addition to other things).

Super Air Jet has been granted an AOC from the Indonesian Transportation Ministry, and should commence service shortly. They have also started promoting launch prices for initial flights, starting at Rp. 250,000 (~Ł12).

The airline's management has repeatedly refuted any connections with the Lion Air Group, although journalist research have pointed to the conclusion that the airline is being founded by Lion Air Group founders. The airline has not published fares but already has a booking system on their website (superairjet.com). Rather bizarrely, when I looked up an itinerary, the system spits out Lion Air Group flights on Lion Air or Batik Air.... very suspicious methinks
