Fiji air now aiming for April start of all flights

probably not wishful thinking now that vaccine has already been rolled out to millions.

Instead of flying 10 or 11 times a week to mainland USA & 3 times a week to Hawaii, might mean they start with 3 or 4 flights a week to USA in total & crank it up from there.

Was told early April, not late April, so may take advantage of some Easter holidays demand.

Source? Verifiable? Flights able to be booked(which does not mean much)?
Entry to USA by non citizens, is currently restricted.
Roll out of vaccine has been slow in many countries like in USA. Its the last vaccine of a population that is important:- not the first

talking 3 months away not tomorrow.

If I was the airline, I'd start with taking bookings for2 or 3 days a week only & see how bookings/yields pan out. Suggest there might be some very good fares to start with, to stimulate demand.

Then they could add frequencies.

Also might only fly to LAX initially not SFO or HNL.

Source - airline

& yes you can book it, for example

SYD/LAX direct 1 April, back direct 8 April, showing A350-900 all the way.

Looks like most flights still are on hold except for a few regional routes and so called repat flights. Still too early!

announcement in less than 24 hours about when the NZ bubble will start. Wonder where Fiji fits in ?

BTW-kiwis can fly to Australia now with any restrictions or quarantine & Australians can fly to NZ, but both must quarantine in NZ. This should change very soon, we hope.

Fiji does not fit into this.

NZ is currently accepting NZ citizens & permanent residents. AU citizens cannot freely enter NZ, even with 14 days in NZ MIQ. MIQ slots are fully allocated.
Tomorrow (6 April) the NZ Govt will make an announcement on AU to NZ travel.
The AU Govt has removed the restriction on leaving AU if going to NZ.

Who can come to New Zealand without requesting to travel

Those allowed to come here without first requesting to travel are:
  • New Zealand citizens and permanent resident visa holders
  • the partner or dependent child of a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, and your visa is based on this relationship
  • a diplomat who holds a post in New Zealand
  • Australian citizens or permanent residents ordinarily resident in New Zealand
  • Eligible travellers from the Cook Islands

I recently got an email from a smaller Fijian resort about a program involving Fiji Air. Essentially it's "Take Your Bubble On Vacation".

1. Book the entire resort island - with various opening up dates during your stay, so you're quarantined at the resort (eg no planned events until Day 7, Off Island events from Day 15)
2. Get the entire FJ business class section for your group from LAX
3. Pay lots of money for the experience (but less than it would normally cost)

Apparently, 3 resorts in Fiji have been approved for this plan.

But if FJ isn't flying at all yet, that makes it a bit harder.
