Which routes for China Airlines 747s?
Which routes does CI operate their 4(?) remaining 747s?
When are they scheduled to be retired? |
I was booked on one TPE- BKK and upstairs despite on a mixed PE/Y fare. Alas it was sealed out, likely due to very light load.
I doubt any will fly untill the cries is over. |
According to flightradar24...
B-18210 did not fly the past week. B-18211 flown TPE-BKK the past week on 2/29. B-18212 did not fly the past week. B-18215 did not fly the past week. 744 was scheduled to retire 2021/2022 but a recent cabin seating cooperation deal with AIDC was released so it's likely the 744 will continue to serve on China Airlines if current seats are replaced. It's likely no 744s will be in operation for China Airlines in March and April. This could well be extended beyond due to the continue spread of corona virus. |
AIDC would work hard on a bid for about 600 economy-class seats that CAL needs as it retrofits two older Boeing 747s it plans to sell, Hu said.
Seems they are still going to leave within the next 2-3years at most. I tried to get the 747 in early Feb on a return flight from Italy and onward. Virus crisis ruined that plan. |
B-18211 was in HK 2 days ago, operating CI915/916

Any news on the 747? I do hope they stick around at least for a tiny bit longer...

B-18210 B-18211 B-18212 B-18215 You can check them on flightradar24 and see the only one that had an operation in the past 90 days was B-18212 doing a TPE-TPE loop. |

Latest rumor is that all four will go to VCV by the end of November.
These 4 planes will be gone immediately and up for sale (available from 2021 Q1). |

Well that is very sad. I was hoping to take my son on the 747 one more time so he could remember what it felt like riding on the 2nd floor of the queen of the sky. He is only 5 years old so I doubt he would remember the last time which was when he was 3yrs old.

B-18210 wore the Boeing dreamliner livery from delivery until the last A-check. One of the most photogenic 747 ever.
B-18211 has the Skyteam livery. B-18215 is the last 747-400 pax built. It will be sad to see these go to storage and never flown again under the beautiful CI livery. |

From what I hear it will be advertised on CI website for reservations after it is made official. The problem is the 14 days quarantine applicable for all foreigners on arrival to Taiwan probably not easy to transfer from another airline from a foreign destination on arrival at TPE. :) |
