IAD-PEK-MNL via Air China in F - cancel or alternative routes?
 

Hi All,

The mrs and I snagged 2 F award seats IAD-PEK-MNL rt in early April via LifeMiles. With everything that’s going on with the corona virus we are going to cancel the original itin and either fly to another destination (non-Asia) or to ask LifeMiles or Air China for an alternative route with another *alliance airline, to avoid transiting in PEK at all.

Who do I contact at this point? Air China or LifeMiles? Do I need to wait until Air China will cancel the flight first?

Ive tried contacting LifeMiles, but their agents aren’t helpful at all. In fact, they want us to pay cancellation fees to cancel this trip.

You need to contact LifeMiles as it is their ticket, only they can change it unless the ticket is under airport control at T-24hrs when possibly the operating carrier can step in, and even then they will likely refer back to the ticket owner.

if LM are not being helpful then you either need to cancel or chamge as per their rules or wait for a cancellation from AirChina.

Based upon policy and experience reported on here you will not get any remedy to route onto snother carrier from CA.

I would have no problem connecting through PVG, but the problem is that your flights might be cancelled leaving you in a pickle.

Air China (as all the mainland carriers) are offering free cancel. Problem is that you need Life Miles to do this. I doubt there is much you cn do other than insist with Life Miles that they handle it, and for free.
