Virgin or Jetstar Melbourne - Hobart? Or Wantas for a little more?

Flying this route round trip in a few weeks. All-in price for extra legroom, fees and etc in economy come out within a few dollars of each other.

Qantas is a bit more.

Any reason to choose one over the other?

thanks.

Virgin - near full service airlines, food, baggage, 1 item 7kg carry-on plus small personnel, IFE-own device
Wantas - full service airlines, food, baggage, 2 items 14 kg carry on largest 10kg plus small personnel, IFE TV
Jetstar - low cost carrier. 7kg carry on, more $ for 10kg carry on. Everything an extra including water, unless buy a bundle, IFE - what's that?

Any difference is schedule?

AA or DL freq flyer?
  • QF--->AA
  • VA--->DL

What are the metrics of that ranking? Look and feel? Attitude? Efficiency?

Jetstar is an LCC and the fare will be unbundled
virgin is a kind of hybrid carrier but really functions akin to full service

i have traditionally found VA poorer in terms of delays etc than jetstar but I think I am the minority

agree re alliances, if I was an AA or BAEC member I would lean more heavily towards qantas

schedule is also important

Just to follow up, after learning about the LCC terminal at MEL we booked VA. Bulkhead economy seats.

Thanks as ever!

Good choice. Are these Economy X? Then it is excellent legroom...

Virgin Economy X was pretty nice. Bulkhead seats had lots of legroom.

Not sure it was worth the ~50% upcharge, but it's a stress-free way to travel.
