China Southern Requires Emailing of Passport for seat assignment?
Not sure if this is standard practice, Can you please confirm that in order for CZ to assign a ticket whether in C/Y one must email them the passport?
Called the 888 number and was told of this

I have only flown them once in the last couple years, I probably did fill in my passport info when buying the ticket, but that is the norm for most all. Would not surprise me at all if they wanted this info because somehow you avoided it on purchase of the ticket.

They definitely need your passport (or PRC ID) number, but I've never been asked to send them a copy of my actual passport. I always book on Ctrip, which has my passport number. I never bother with advance seat assignments, and have never ended up in a middle seat, but even if I did, it wouldn't be the end of the world for my 2 hour flights.

I travel quite regularly with CZ. I make all my own bookings on their website and select seats without issue. Even when I need to change or add something, it’s been straightforward online or with the call centre in China. Have never been asked to email anything. By the way, I’m unclear whether they are asking you to email your passport number or a photograph of your passport. You can easily confirm when you loaded your passport number at purchase by printing a copy of your order. I may be wrong, but I don’t think it’s possible to complete purchase without loading those details. I’m still not clear why you just don’t go online and select your seat....it’s prety easy to do. Some posters have had difficulties with the website, if that’s the case, then try the app. It’s much more stable and effective than it used to be.

i finally managed to get the correct confirmation number from DL. They said all seat assignments are blocked. I am able to change seats for one of the segments but keep on getting error-ed out for the second. I originally had a seat assigned but it currently is showing blank but my original seat is still taken. how do i bypass the following message?
the site imo is a joke.
I cant find the app in the google store. where can i find it? China southern app did not do the trick

so i'm having bunch of back and forth w them via email., one agent explicitly gives me the ticket number and name format to use, i still cant order my meal. their site does not recognize the entered data. if they are gona give me data, at least test it to make sure it is functional than waste my time.
