I asked this question numerous months ago, and I can't find the thread …
Is it possible to choose a seat in advance when booking a flight on MU (intl and domestic flights)

It definitely is possible to select seats in advance on MU while booking on their website, or even after before check-in. You can select your seats here: Seat Reservation - China Eastern Airlines.

As far as I know, it should, since MU's international sites are all on a common platform. (The website for Mainland China is different and reserving a seat requires a phone number; although it accepts international numbers, it very rarely works.)

If you use the mainland China site you can do it but you'll need to input your phone number and receive their texts 3 separate times....I don't understand who designs these user interfaces in China and why they love to collect your phone number so much!
