Miles credit (pref. on Alaska Airlines) for internal travel on airlines within China?

I am new to this forum, so please be kind if I have not posted in the correct fashion. As an aside, figuring out how to post to this forum should be very clear and it is not.

We are traveling throughout interior China on multiple airlines of which we have never traveled. I would like to be able to accrue some points for these miles, but I am unclear how to maximize this. We are predominantly Alaska Air flyers, which is where I would love to have my points flow, but I am not sure how to get them there.

China Eastern Air is Skyteam
Air China is Star Alliance
Hong Kong Air & Dragonair is OneWorld

Help!

Welcome to FlyerTalk and the China Forum!

Your post is fine but it was opened under an unrelated topic so I'm going to ask the moderators to move it to an appropriate place, which will be under the Miles and Points forum under "Other Asian, Australian, and South Pacific Airlines." Since your question may or may not involve Alaska Airlines alone, it seems reasonable to start with the flown airline(s) and get advice on figuring out where and how to put the miles. I think it will get more views and traction from knowledgeable travelers there, vs sitting here on the Destination/China forum.

If you go up to the very top of the page on the banner you'll see FORUM, from the arrowed selection choose Miles & Points and then go to the Subforum Airlines and Mileage Programs. Scroll down to the Other Asian, et all forum.

pdxrelo, welcome to FlyerTalk. I moved your thread, with a more focused thread title, to the forum suggested.

According to the Alaska Airlines mileage plan information, the only airlines which serve China on which credit to Alaska may be earned are Hainan and Cathay Pacific.

So if you have other frequent flyer accounts, you might be able to accrue air miles in those programs. Ocn Vw 1K, Senior Moderator.

A lot will depend on the fare booking class (not the cabin). Some low cost(low fare bucket) will earn little or even nil. For short flights you will not get many ff miles in any ffp's.

Dragonair is not a full OneWorld airlines. Dragonair is associated with Cathay CX and a OW affilate.

Hong Kong Air is very independent. Nothing to do with OW.

These links give a guide to airline & freq flyer partners. Look the airline ffp web sites.

Note many ffp's require you to be a signed up member at the date of the flight. Some allow you join and retro credit for flights taken up to X days before.

All KA flights begin or end in HK, so this won't help you for anything internal. As for the others, in many cases the multiple is either zero or close to it so I often don't even bother to collect.

But Hong Kong is part of China. Cathay Dragon KA has flights to other cities in China
[Ask the international airlines who had HK listed as a separate country in their web sites]

Sure they fly to many cities in China, but they aren't allowed to sell connecting tickets between them.

Fly with Hainan Airlines (HU). You can earn AS miles.
