Xiamen Airlines MF8667 crashes in MNL

From https://www.airlive.net/. An MF 737-800 crashed in MNL late night local time. No fatalities reported. Expect huge troubles at MNL airport which is congested even without incidents like this.

Glad to hear that everyone is unharmed, though this appears to be more of a skidding accident

Stuck in Bangkok now waiting for this to resolve. Am on PR from Dammam to Manila. They've left us trapped in a gate area of BKK without any access to the main departure area. So far just gave us one small bottle of water. No end in sight. Looks like they don't have the equipment in MNL to move this plane. I guess CRK, CEB and so on already maxed out with planes that were already diverted there. Sucks to be on this kind of airline when this kind of thing happens.

Runway 6-24 should be opened by 4PM according to MIAA.

Nope.. moved to 5AM the next day. I hope arabiamark and the rest are staying in the hotel now.

Finally in a hotel after 10 pm at night here in BKK. After keeping us locked up in the gate area for about 5 hours we were bussed back to the aircraft at about 2:30 pm. Naturally everybody assumed that meant we would be on our way. But after a further 2 hours of sitting on the plane we were told that Manila's runway won't open until tomorrow morning and we would finally be sent to a hotel. God knows why they sent us back to the plane without any confirmation that the runway would open and we could actually go there.
Then, what followed was a further 2 and a half hours of waiting while Bangkok Airport processed our 'permission' to leave the plane and pass through immigration. Finally we all piled back onto buses for the long ride (we were at the far end of the cargo area) to the terminal. Immigration was jammed of course. So that took a while. Then nobody seemed to no whether we should collect our checked bags or not. So that took a while. When I was finally out to the place where they were collecting people to go to the hotel, it was a mob scene like you wouldn't believe. I just decided to get my own place.
Being in business class didn't help so much. No fast track card for immigration. No special help with the hotel or anything. Just a nicer place to sit while all the waiting was going on so I guess that's something.
They're saying our flight is scheduled for 12 noon tomorrow, to arrive at 4pm. That will make this about a 40-hour trip.

I'm not working with PR but I'm sorry to hear that there was no special assistance given to business class passengers during this ordeal. Not defending the airline but PR got the most flights diverted to other airports, flights from the US, UK, the Middle East and Regionals. I guess they got overwhelmed with the situation. Would like to hear from US/UK passengers as well.

The Xiamen Airlines pilot had trouble understanding English from Manila ATC. When asked to give reason for their go around on the first landing attempt, the pilot did not answer. I would imagine a full investigation will be on its way but at first glance it looks like weather may have payed a role.

Looks like it's going to be at noon today: https://www.rappler.com/nation/20983...august-18-2018

In either case, I hope the investigation shows whatever deficiencies there was either with ATC, airliner or pilot...

As of 12:43 pm still waiting in the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (sp?) Miracle Lounge. Copious flowing wine is helping dull the pain of this travel mishap. The board says 13:30 departure but that is looking more and more fictional. At least today's waiting is in better surroundings. Arrival in Manila is now 28 hours late and counting.

How’s everyone doing?

The news reports that the plane has been pulled off the mud and that the runway has reopened.

I finally got to the hotel in Makati at 1 am in the morning a few hours ago. After some hours delay leaving Bangkok, we had about an hour in a holding pattern waiting to land in Manila. Then we sat on the ground for 3 hours waiting for a gate or remote stand. We finally got one just before midnight. After the bus ride to Terminal 1 it was mercifully not so crowded in immigration. I guess most of the mobs had cleared through already while we were sitting on the tarmac. Bags came relatively soon also. The door to door travel time of this Dammam to Manila 'non-stop' leg was about 50 hours.

There are no words for what a cluster NAIA is. If only I could avoid it more often in my Philippine travels.
