Air China - SJC cancelled

Hey, guys. It appears that Air China went from reducing SJC frequencies to cancelling it outright. I did not get any notification, but I saw on airline-routes (https://www.routesonline.com/news/38...late-sep-2018/) that they stopped allowing reservations; though I didn't know whether that meant CA just stopped allowing bookings, or whether CA actually cancelled the route. When I checked my reservation on Orbitz, it showed as cancelled and rebooked to CA985/986 from SFO to PEK. Fortunately, I was able to change it to the UA nonstop to PVG (assuming the changes actually ticket). If you are booked on CA830/829 for flights after 9/22, you may want to check your reservations and make the necessary changes.

On a somewhat related note, does UA know about the China TWOV? One of my friends doesn't have a Chinese visa and we have an overnight layover in PVG before heading to KIX. CA definitely knows about the TWOV, but I'm not sure whether UA is aware of this. If not, any suggestions on what my friend can bring as proof?

How is this query "somewhat related" to CA's PEK-SJC route?

Thanks for your concern.

Somewhat in the sense that it may be a factor worth thinking/asking about, should another FT member get rebooked onto a flight not operated by CA due to the cancellation. Main point was indeed about the cancellation, but thought it would be worth mentioning/asking for those originally booked to go to a third country via the SJC-PVG route.

There is a thread dedicated for twov. This thread pertains to SJC-PEK.

I suspect that ANA will increase prices on SJC-NRT-PVG bookings due to the lack of competition.

There will be a lot less traffic between SJC and China going forward as a result of investment restrictions and trade issues. With China gradually abolishing its one-Chinese-airline-per-city-pair policy, Chinese airlines will concentrate more on their primary destinations in US.

Hainan Airlines also flies from SJC. But, I guess if you are talking about *A fliers, that is a different story.
