Scoot Check-in Upgrade Offers
I understand that Scoot frequently offers check-in upgrade to "Scootbiz" (their premium economy seats masquerading as business class), when space is available.
Booked a couple of their super cheap fares, and can't wait to try a budget medium/long-haul product! (I've managed my expectations, of course :D) Perhaps we can post current airport upgrade offer prices: 1. OOL/SYD-SIN - A$139 (A$99 + A$39 "service fee") 2. HKG/BKK/ICN, etc. etc.... ??? |
Good idea, interested to know as I haven't been persuaded to fly them yet - this might just tip the balance if they are decent.

I thought Scootbiz was fine - did SYD-SIN one-way on a Sunday in Dec-12.
OK, it's 2+4+2 seating, but it reclines enough that I can take a nap and it was adequate for a day flight. I also recall there was a separate check-in desk at SYD (no queue). Now, I paid AUD807 all-in (booked 30 days in advance), so not sure if people would consider that good value or not. |
You can even do a upgrade in-flight. I flew SIN-TPE in May this year and the moment the seatbelts signs went off, the cabin crew made an announcement that in-flight upgrade are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. If i'm not wrong, it cost like SGD50 or so.
I booked the stretch seats on "exclusive" section just behind the Biz seats and board the plane via the front door. Frankly speaking, i don't see anything special with the ScootBiz seats other than it's leather cladded and has a 2-4-2 abreast as compared to the 3-3-3 for the rest of the plane. It's not like AirAsiaX lie flat seats where you get truly lie-flat seats. |

Are Scoot A320s to TPE on a 3-3-3 configuration? I flew to TSN on a 3-4-3 configuration.

480HKD + service fee offered at the check-in counters in HKG. On-board, an slightly lower offer (59SGD if I'm not mistaken - I was half asleep already) was also announced, and without the service fee. Seems like a bargain, for the very small price difference...

They'll be getting spanking new B787 though. Those that SQ ordered but decided not to use. |

Scoot's fleet are all ex-SQ B777-200s, and yes, it's 3-4-3 (my mistake earlier).

More recent data points?
Just wondering whether anybody has any more recent data points to share?

Ah right, forgot they are using B777-200s. I can't tell an A from a B haha... :p yeah I heard the B787-8 will be in service by 2015. I bet they'll cramp in more Y seats hehe...
Scoot is a great way to travel compared to regular carriers. It's cheap but frankly I don't get the feel that it's a budget carrier based on the comfort of my travels, since as mentioned it looks like a premium carrier compared to Etihad which I had taken on a similar route. Win-win situation for everyone I guess. :) |
I was successful with a SGD81 (USD62) bid for SIN-TAO (B777 operated). 5h50mins flight time. Actually there was three of us who were successful with this bid (online).

Yeah, I'm a bit scared of the 787 being more cramped. The 777s are great, especially in the back section of the aircraft.
It's been a while since I flew that 777 configuration, but as I recall the comfort is about the same. |

I would think that 3-3-3 seating on 787 would be more or less equivalent to 3-4-3 seating on 777 @:-)
