Air Asia birds too big for Tribhuvan International Airport
Well, it was to be expected: http://www.asianewsnet.net/Wide-body...rt--50542.html. No more Air Asia to Nepal - indefinitely. The runway is falling apart

AFAIK Air Asia was using its AirAsiaX A330s on this route.

Mhhhhh
I'm due to fly SIN-BKK-KTM tomorrow on TG and they fly their B772 on the BKK-KTM (TG319) route. But as the article says, [...]CAAN has not officially communicated the ban to the various airlines. |
KA also uses A330 on their KTM route..

My local friend said that it is unlikely they will enforce this.
They made this public to put some pressure on the company that takes care of the tarmac at KTM because there are apparently some financial discussions on who should be paying for the renovation of the runways... Depending so heavily on tourism, Nepal can't afford to lose all these big birds all at once... Still impressive to see these 777 and 330 land while waiting to board... since the airport is so tiny, you feel like you're sitting right next to the landing strip. |
