FT roll call: Any private pilots here?

With the FAA's recent rule changes to qualifying for certain license types I've started down the path of obtaining a sport pilot certificate and am interested in hearing from other FTers about their self-piloted travels, what sorts of trips they've taken and if any of those trips where combined with Part 121/135/380 flights. I'm thinking here of those who've rented by the hour/day or who've built their own a/c from a kit.

might start this thread in travelbuzz, or perhaps see if there is an existing (old) thread, because i know there are various pilots here

(start in travelbuzz then move here, or bump old thread then move here, etc)

I haven't flown on an airliner since 2006. I've been north to Canada, south to Mexico, and as far as New England in a small prop plane. I've been fortunate to be able to work remotely. Good luck with the sport pilot training.

I rent, and I'm only single engine certified so the longest flights I've taken are in the 4 to 5 hour range. Any reason why you are considering sport instead of private? From what I've read the new medical requirements don't distinguish too much between them.

I'm currently working on my instrument rating and I've only been able to combine a couple of flights with training so far.

I have my PPL. Longest single leg has been around 4 or 4.5 hours--would have been roughly a New York Skyline tour from BED, passing around ISP and south of JFK to be able to do the Hudson north and south. I've always rented--don't think I quite have the financial resources to do anything but that for now.

I am a CFI/CFII/MEI. Own both a 182RG and a 310R. Still end up on the airlines more than I'd like but it's getting less and less as I step up to more capable airplanes. I have been as far west as Catalina Island and as far east as Lansing, MI. Crossed the Rockies more times than I can count. Just sunk A LOT of money into the 310 for a new panel and am looking forward to flying it on my usual RAP-PHX trip.

Just got back from doing some pattern work. Was a healthy ~16G25 up there, very sporty day.
