Oh how I miss the days of players acting like normal human beings. Greg Maddux has been known to fly in Y on WN and this guy needs a whole dreamliner? It's a shame the Yankees of tomorrow are going to be without a class act like Derek Jeter (who is retiring at the end of this season) but will have the likes of this guy. I hate him already and he hasn't even thrown a pitch.

seems funny that the guy can blow a small fraction of his pay on an extravagant plane ride and people hate him - but nobody gets upset at people picking expensive cars when they could've gotten a nice Honda/Toyota (low mile second hand to save $$$ on the depreciation, of course)

Perhaps it was an opportunity for JL to shake down a newly delivered 787 and do a publicity event with Tanaka. I see that JL took delivery of a 787 on 16-Dec-2013 but the notes say the delivery flight wasn't until Jan 2014. So it's plausible that they got it and needed to flight test it and/or have pilots put in their hours on it.

As stated before, given the numbers for private biz jets, 200K seems low which suggests a confluence of reasons.

Source for delivery data: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...=9&output=html

Just to put a different spin (no pun intended) on things.

The guy is being paid a fortune, but when he makes his debut is of no real consequence to him - he likely gets paid monthly like the majority of us.

However, for the Yankees, it is a big deal as they want to show him off sooner rather than later.

Perhaps therefore, it was the Yankees that hired the plane for him, and the fact he flew with JAL is a nice piece of branding for the airline to show off their route from Tokyo to JFK.

Just a thought...

Assuming the the trip is tax deductible, (traveling from his primary residence to his place of work) he is only out $120,800 with the new 39.6% top rate

Oops. Forgot about New York State and City.

That makes it about $100k.

This is what you get with high marginal tax rates!

Does this count as manufactured spend toward a Centurion card?

He is more likely to be an employee of a foreign company of which he is likely to be the beneficial owner so his Tax liability on earnings would be way less than US Citizens have to pay.

Soo... That'll get him to the top level of JAL's FF program in a single flight, right?

So it would have cost $138,320 to fly on the G650, and while more environmentally more responsible, whats another 60k to take the Dreamliner and be able to play catch all around the cabin?
As mentioned earlier, usually you would need to hire the plane both ways.
So G650 would have costed him $276,640 instead of $138,320.

Hopefully a CC that gives him miles. I'm surprised nobody wondered about how many miles he would be getting.

Did he get priority boarding? Did they line up 200 people at a gate just to have him pass by everybody and board?

One really has to wonder about his IQ. If this is an example of his decision making skills, one can only hope that he has a really good catcher making calls when he's on the mound.

I guess the Yankee Pitcher really wanted to try out a commercial dreamliner for himself, under privacy.

$200K one shot isn't a big deal under his new contract. Now if he becomes a compulsive spender, then there will be more problems. One off spend.. why not? That is if you can afford to do so.
