The private planes of the rich and (in)famous

I wonder how many points I need to save up for a seat in these rides?

Wow, very nice. Thanks for the link.

It would seem, once again, that I am in the wrong line of work

Is there some rule that you have to decorate your plane as tacky as possible? Possibly I am just not hip enough for these planes? :)

Tacky is right. It goes with the territory. If you've ever been to haute Dubai, you'll get this in spades. The Burj al-Arab hotel is possibly the tackiest, yet most expensive, place I've ever seen, and the new Ritz-Carlton in Moscow is running a close second IMO.

Is it just me, or does every single one of those photos bring the movie "Barbarella" to mind?

I would like to know whose planes these are, so I can hire them an interior decorator.

Would you prefer Hare Force One?

Maybe there's some faustian deal that the ultrawealthy have to make. To gain great wealth one must resign all good taste.

I agree. A lot of those interiors were classless.

Classless? Surely they have different classes of service! For example Lisa Marie:

I count 28 seats. And 1 queen sized bed. Obviously the maximum 2 occupants of the bed are in a different class of service than the people seated in lounges...

For those who think private jets are all luxurious, I suggest you go see some. That's true only of the larger private jets. The smaller and mid-sized ones are very cramped, and you better not be too shy if you use what they call a lav in them if anyone else is in the cabin.

No, I've never flown in one, but for reasons I still can't understand, I got invited to a sales show years ago. It really made me appreciate spending a few hundred bucks for coach seats and using the upgrade tricks I've learned here on FT.

Yeah, but it'd be amazing to have the plane fly on my schedule.

And that's really what private jets offer -- time savings, hassle avoidance and privacy for people who need it. In many ways, a good F or C cabin provides greater luxury.

As for me, my time isn't that valuable, going through security and waiting for my flight with coffee and a magazine isn't much of a hassle in my mind and I'm nobody important. I'm not a good private jet sales prospect for these and other reasons.

I had been thinking of Austin Powers, but this is a far better image!
