My curiousity about the "I voted" icon led me to vote.

Being from Chicago led me to vote again and again and again!:D

The issue here seems to be whether people want the information to be PUBLICIZED.

That's a fair point, though some people do seem to want the information to be fully private, not just un-publicized.

At any rate, don't the "I voted" icons disappear once the voting period ends? People who want to vote but don't want it to be generally known could wait and vote on the last day, or even during the last hour. That way, the "window" during which their voting status is public would be only a matter of a few hours.

Granted, this won't be convenient for everyone due to travel patterns, internet usage patterns, etc. But it's at least one option that people have.

fairviewroad, that's fine for those yet to vote and for those who voted after the icons were implemented. But some who voted early felt they were blindsided by the icons.

I posted earlier that I would wait until the last convenient day to vote. I don't care about the icons. But I have already seen posts by some candidates about the voting process that changed my selection. So I will wait to see if other candidates' posts turn me off or make me want to add them to my ballot.

This is the second time that this issue has been discussed.

There is a problem and it is still unresolved.

Nonsequitor.

Perhaps voters should be given the option of having the I Voted icon displayed beside their name ...

If the software allows this, I agree that this is a good solution.

The symbol is a good thing to spread the word about the elections. Members who did not read the sticky or the respective forums ask what the little thing under the name means and it might actually encourage them in participating.

Just my 2 cents !

+1

I'm violating a "rule" by posting here but I need to point out that there is an agreement that moderators do not post here in ORP since in the past there have been flame wars resulting from those posts.

In the past, I would have been relatively apathetic on this issue. Today, I consider it in the context of the current decision-making process and Talkboard's role in that process. As such, whether someone voted or not is valuable information that I can use to form a judgement when I see conflicting posts by different members, and I am glad to have the icon displayed for those members who voted. In fact, I would really prefer it to be permanent and not go away after the election (my memory is not what it used to be).

What about a result about the elections now that the icons are gone ? :o

It usually takes a few days to a week for the results. In the meantime, I redid my signature and am preparing myself to not have the nifty subtitle under my name. ;)

It was a fun election cycle. It seemed to have a little less vitriol than last year, but that may just be me.

Now back to the usual programming. :D

Where did my "I voted" icon go?

I want it back! :(

I was somebody.
