I think all freebies are travel related after all the more money I have in my pocket there are more ways I'll figure out how to spend it on travel. I don't think we should analyze each freebie as to whether it's suitcase friendly. The spam forum consistantly seems to be 3 pages long and the titles are very obvious so if your not interested in the freebies you can just scroll by. I am fine with a new category for this and agree with other posters that why very obsolete categories are retained long after their demise would be what I'd eliminate. Perhaps for history sake everything could be put in an obsolete category?

Save the freebies :D

OK, I agree. However, these "freebies" still seem separate from alternative points and miles like eRewards, mypoints, etc.

Then what's next? 50% off coupons for a plant website? 25% off coupons for greeting card? 1% off coupons for porn?

Heck, the more I use those coupons the more money I'll have for travel...

Seriously. I think people are stretching correlation of freebies to being "travel related". And they're really... s_t__r___e____t_____c______h_______i________n_____ ___g

Try using the word FREE in your favorite search engine. It will save time.

I do believe that Randy has chimed in stating that he feels this is a Talkboard issue. I would suggest that everyone post to the corresponding Talkboard thread so that our esteemed Talkboard members will have the benefit of easily seeing all the raised issues.

I like it fine as it is. It is not any major difficulty to sift thru it for what you want and it does have relevance to points/miles as witnessed by the MyCoke Rewards postings.

If you decide to change it, then please do not eliminate the freebies but have them in a separate area, as I often learn of them from this forum if I have not cruised FatWallet or SlickDeals that day. This allows one stop notification of matters important to me -- points/miles/freebies!

I've posted my thoughts & recommendations in the Talkboard forum & created a thread in S.P.A.M. letting people know there is a thread in the Talkboard forum so they can go over there. I'm not going to repeat the recommendations because they are in the Talkboard forum.

But I thought Randy might be interested in the #-crunching I did yest aft on S.P.A.M. threads going back to 2001, and wasn't sure he'd be checking in on the Talkboard thread so I thought I'd post them here for him. M/P = Miles & Points; F = Freebies

BTW - one advantage to having re-reading this thread is that I just caught the suggestion on re-naming S.P.A.M. Alternate Site Points & if freebies are put into a sub-forum or their own forum, Deals Unrelated to Miles/Points. Think both titles are good ones.

Cheers.

There are not that many available deals/freebies/surveys (anymore) that directly or one-step indirectly (like Marriott Rewards points) will or can result in more miles.

There are not that many active threads in the forum compared to other forums, even with the "extra" deals/freebies/surveys, so why bother splitting it up and clogging up another forum that won't want it, and/or creating another forum that will need more moderators, besides a headache of more work for SPAM mods to constantly seek out and move threads.

I post to a thread there if I have taken advantage of a deal both to thank the OP and so that I know I have already taken advantage of the deal. If there is a long delay before a significant reward, I may well post again upon receipt to thank the OP again and keep interested others informed as to expected intervals.

I have no problem with making posts in SPAM not count towards qualifying for limited/delayed access fora like Coupon Connection.

The fact that there are few mile/point posts in s.p.a.m. is actually a reason for splitting the forum. It's annoying to wade through all the free lube offers to find real s.p.a.m. I'd even guess that the increase in spam decreases people's willingness to post any real s.p.a.m. there. Why bother asking a points question in s.p.a.m. if few people will ever notice the post?

If you really do just want free stuff, then check the very active slickdeals and fatwallet sites.

Closing this thread - please see below.

Hello all -

As the Talk Board has decided to table the discussion of the SPAM forum at this time, and so no decisions are to be made, AND having heard from other ORP moderators, I am closing this thread. Thanks for your cooperation.
