Tazi, the validity of a particular member's suspension is not on topic -- and would not be if I agreed with it or not.

CameraGuy has cited the "arrogance" of this member resulting in him being suspended.

Does CameraGuy know what he was suspended for? Does he know if it involved arrogance? Indeed, does he know anything about the reasons for the suspension at all?

I certainly do not. I have neither asked anyone nor has anyone volunteered the information to me. Frankly, I don't care whether or not the suspension had anything to do with arrogance -- that is a matter between the member, the moderator who suspended him, and perhaps Randy.

What concerns me are two questions:

1. Should a member be suspended for something he posted on private TB Forum.

2. Having been elected by the general membership to TB, should a member be removed by one moderator (or even a group of moderators)?

As noted above, I don't think the answer in either case should be "yes".

Moreover, OzStamps said that Gleff has indicated that he will allow a wide open discussion on TB without members being afraid of being suspended for what they post there. I think this is admirable but would only hold true for Gleff's incumbency. It did not hold true in the past and without a formal decision would not hold true in the future.

Can a suspended member be allowed to participate in TalkBoard? Yes. This is not just theoretical. It has happened. In at least one case with which I am familiar Randy kept a member suspended from posting on all forums except the private TB Forum.

I think this was a very wise decision by Randy and would like to have it, too, formalized for the future.

Again, this should be discussed on TB Topics. I would like to make a formal recommendation there and present my arguments in more detail -- as well as give others the opportunity to present their views, both pro and con.

Before I can do so, however, Randy has to say if he will allow that discussion -- and that is what this thread is all about.

Randy has been traveling for the past four days and it might be best to pick this conversation up when he returns in the next few days - that way he can respond as well as read the good intentions of our members.
