Missing Stars

I just noticed that I can not see the rating stars on any threads.

Is this a temporary technical hitch or have we abused still another feature to the point where Randy was forced to remove it?

I suspect that they've been removed in light of some of the really tacky uses of them.

In any case, you brought up the issue in another thread (and quite rightly so!), didn't you expect them to be removed?

Actually, no. Randy had said that he would prefer removing the offenders than the rating feature.

Well, I just gave this thread a :-: :-: :-: :-: :-: , and nothing, so I guess they are gone

Dov

Give it up man. The only thing left is the referral points. I have 16, how many do you have?

I am really afraid that the next things to go will be Travel/Security and Newstand.

I think that Randy may share my fears -- at least about Travel/Security -- and he now has five moderators there to try to keep things calm.

Of course, I have faith. If we try really hard I am sure that we can destroy those forums, too.

you're right, dov.

Perhaps after the OMNI debacle, it just wasn't worth the effort to throw out the offenders and easier to close it down.

All in all, a very frustrating week on FT.

I'm surprised that you're suprised.

If it isn't a technical glitch, then I imagine that Randy did find a pattern in the use of the thread ratings and removed the feature.

All in all, it's pretty ugly, no matter how you look at it.

I only hope that I'm 100% wrong about that.

This thread (and the related politics on the birthday threads - which is quite sad) reinforces my feeling that even though OMNI may be gone people will find ways to argue about things. Which means that first and foremost you need good rules on dealing with the underlying issues.

I agree. I believe that Omni can survive and be a wonderful part of FlyerTalk if rules of participation are applied and enforced.

I have decided to remove the feature based on what i perceive is less than honorable intentions of their use.

Mark this down as similar to discontinuance of the member rating feature which vBulletin also comes standard with. I'm confused why vBulletin included features like this if indeed users of bulletin boards abuse them? Is FlyerTalk that different?

Hope this answers your question.
