ORP Flaming and Baiting
I could have posted this letter on any of a number of ORP threads and it would have been on topic -- I am choosing to do it on a separate thread because I don't want it associated with any specific person or group of people.
ORP has become the "flame and bait forum". I think it is a particularly nasty insult to the Flyer Talk owner to use his very own forum to violate the TOS he established to attack other posters with posts that would be immediately removed from moderated forums. While only one or two posters have gone so low as to use an obscenity in ORP, quite a few have challenged the honesty, decency, and morality of specific "opponents". (I, myself, have been guilty of openly questioning the intellectual honesty of some moderators.) Ordinary members are guilty. Moderators are guilty. Democrats are guilty. Republicans are guilty. Omni habituees are guilty. Omni-boycotters are guilty. Putting those you don't like on your "ignore" list is not the answer. Maturity is an answer but unfortunately it seems to be an inceasingly rare commodity. Here's one suggestion: When you feel like attacking a fellow F/Ter (or launching a counter-attack after he hit you) write the nastiest, most vile, filthiest post you can think of. Preview it. Make certain you have said everything you want about the low-life idiot. Admire your own choice of words. Think of how everybody is going to be laughing at the idiot when they read your carefully-crafted prose. Congratulate yourself on your genius. Then, instead of hitting the "Submit Reply" button, click on the "X" on the top right of your browser. |

And then I took a couple long breaths and I trashed it. I’m feeling better, FT does not have another contentious issue to deal with and life goes on. |

Well said Dovster. I'm not up-to-speed on many of the controversies between posters (and I'd like to keep it that way :) ) so a lot of the posts that have shown up in ORP recently I just "don't get" but have been rather surprised to see them showing up in the ORP forum.

ORP Flaming and Baiting?
Not too long ago, OMNI was the hot spot for 'flaming and baiting'. Now it is ORP? I guess so. What a sad commentary... Maybe I shoud start a trend, get ahead of the crowd, and be the first to announce myself as an official boycotter of ORP? After all, how often does anyone need to email or PM Randy, and then post it on the wall for everyone to see? Yes, I can see that it would be useful to make public suggestions from time to time, and then perhaps to discuss them with other members, and Randy. A "Suggestions" forum could do this job. As for the need for a public 'bulletin board' for Randy, I guess that if you put up a clean, empty space labelled: "Post your complaints here...", then one *should* expect to draw all sorts of types who wish to whine and complain, and do so in public as a spectacle for others to watch them. I guess they missed it, or don't know the meaning of "Make it proud". To me this means - - be able to take pride in what you say here - - to actually be proud of how you carry yourself here and what you say, and how well you say it... But as I say, it appears that most have totally missed that point... So I will stop here, before everyone realizes that I am also whining and complaining here. - - Now, where's that cheese to go with that wine? . |

People complain about OMNI or Air Canada, or whatever being nasty, but this forum is the most vicious on FlyerTalk, by far.

OMNI used to be a place where fights would occur on a regular basis, but with the introduction of registration and now 100 post minimum, all we have to deal is with the fact that people just relish in engaging in nasty political threads. And then when things get out of hand, they use that handy "report bad post" icon, and start complaining how unfair we are. But here, it is wide open, trolls, duplicate accounts, anything goes. All we can do is to ban the user, but that doesn't stop him/her from creating one duplicate user per post <sigh> |
I feel for the moderators in Omni. They are more like babysitters for a few rotten children. I think I shall buy each moderator of Omni a drink when our paths cross. What do you think jfe, Rio Grande River Water sound good to you? :D
