I also endorse the 'year member' exclusion on FT others suggested - if that is technically possible. I agree. FT is here primarily or the giving and receiving of knowledge, not coupon trading. I do believe however that the year exception does seam reasonable. While I certainly understand that people may want to give prior to posting 100 posts, you can help many more people than the singular person a coupon would be given to - by adding input and experiances to the boards where you find it useful. I'm sure if you still REALLY want to give coupons away you could always look at CC and then pick out people that are requesting X type of item, and then PM them individually asking if they could utilize your complimentary coupon. |
Good Workaround

Whether it's 100 posts, or 4200 posts, if you're going to trade in Coupon Connection, please be careful. Not all posters with low/high post counts should be trusted.
Now that I've said that, if Mrspilot came to chat, or went to a FT get together, and started making friends, we'd be happy to help her with trades. :) |

Dan is absolutely right. Which is why the Coupon Connection FAQ puts the point in this way: "A person's "post count" is just one index of his or her experience on and commitment to FlyerTalk. A high post count -- along with the other information you may find in reading their threads and responses to them! -- is one way to assess how trustworthy a person is in this venue. Where he or she has posted is also one index to their contributions to the FlyerTalk community." Chuck aka cblaisd Moderator, Coupon Connection |

time, posts, other measures
I echo a lot of the postings here in being quite disappointed in being limited from the Coupon posting. I made a few trades and really wanted to continue helping other members.
Is there a way of setting up access in levels? could we give out levels like you get on eBay... 20 postings=yellow star, 50=red star...? Alex |

Alex Thre never will be a system that will please everyone... but our kind host sets the requirement for his board... and we are bound by them. You could say Randy DID set up three levels: >100 posts Full posting privileges in all board Forums <100 posts Full posting privileges in all board Forums except for OMNI and Coupon Connection Banned No posting privileges |

I officially subscribed to FlyerTalk back in December of 2002.
It ain’t easy, but I am still trying to reach 100 posts... |
I do think too that the 100 post limit for CC is not appropriate. I have only posted there once when I han Priceline bonus money opportunitis that I were not able to use personaly. I have never acquired anything through CC.
It is definitely not difficult to "achieve" 100 posts. I have been lurking for about two years and ONLY post when I have something to add to the conversation. This 100 postings rule only encourages "sloppy" postings that do not add value to the conversation we have here. Recently I have been more active on the Hyatt and Travelbidding forum because I feel that I have gained some information that I am willing to share and that others would benefit as well. I also have more than 10 United discount certifictaes that I would like to give away because I do not need them personally but I cannot post them on CC. |
No issues with post count but.....
OK So I am over the 100 count mark, but.....
I have been around since long before my registration or first post. It took me more than a year to register, I go way back with most of the original FTers. My post count to time ratio would have meant that I could not post to CC or OMNI for quite a while. You know what-- that is not all bad. CC was getting way out of control, the old adage of abused privileges comes to mind. They were badly abused. I do agree that post count does not indicate anything other than ability to post and if so inclined someone could accumlate 100 posts within a week-- that too is not good. However FT is not about CC so lets get over it fast. The fact that CC was getting so out of hand made me virtually stop posting and reading it. I for one like the new rules, no more $$, no more brokers (albeit some may be close), no more trolls. But CC is not what FT is about for me. FT is about giving and getting good info on travel, freq programs and other related items (CC is a related item to me). I have gifted to many of you without ever posting. I assure you if you are an active FTer with our without 100 posts you know who and how to truly give and get value. Unfortunately the priviledge of CC was badly abused by many. I bet if people randomly start posting (as I think I have seen from some) just to get post count you might see other ways to evaluate who has the PRIVILEDGE. I know I would want access to post if I did not have it and if the FT team can develop a better indicator of value to FT then post count, great if not then so be it. |
