I think that reputation has become very valuable now that it includes identity. I also think that the concept of letting reputation run anonymously for a month and then outing all blings and dings retroactively was a stroke of pure genius. Cheers to Randy on that one. :D

Randy has stated in writing his sole intention was to have this for Coupon Connection. He is up to his eyeballs in Freddie's work now so imagine this is not very high on his radar screen.

(Notwithstanding this I have noticed the new "search all posts by this user" feature is incredibly fast and incredibly accurate. Anyone that gets conned NOW by a habitual coupon trader shark or "gimme" merchant is just not doing even super basic homework on the member involved. And anyway, In 4 years I can count the publicly reported dud CC deals on my hand. )

Had that "CC only option" occurred the 18,000 or whatever page views in this forum and very many 100s of posts right here would not have occurred in the past week on the subject. So much for the "no-one really cares" theory about this issue. These figure far surpass visitor numbers or posts to this Forum in the past AFAIK.

And folks would not have been outed and accused and hinted at and discussed and dissected via email networks and PM.

Not a mile or point earned among it all of course, but lots of distrust and animosity and angst has flown from it. All incredibly negative and divisive IMHO. And NOT the thing that in my time here has been the goal or mission statement of Flyertalk - quite the opposite in fact.

Not a new FT 'feature' that should stay IMHO.

Indeed. I think you'll find that your stamp of approval will be a quite sought-after-issue, similar to a rare Mauritius penny post, engendering civility and good will along the way.

Plus, a bling from you, ScottC, and Shareholder would bestow more than an additional lozenge from those posts alone!

While seemingly not the original intention I think that the reputation feature has made FT a much friendlier place. I have sent out both Blings and Dings, more Blings. I try and only Ding posts that I feel were rude, over-the-top, or not in the spirit of FT. I would not Ding someone just because I disagreed with their opinion, it is just the spirit of the post that I look at when it comes to reputation. Randy, please keep this feature on.
