Traffic report?
Randy,
I'm not sure if it's all in my head or not, but the board seems less busy these days. Do you have data that shows how many posts / day you're getting now vs. pre-vBB? It may be all in my head... |
I agree. The United M+ board seems a little less used since the changeover.

Randy of course has the exact figures, and the alexa ones as they themselves say are only indicative.
This Forum of course has had visitor traffic 30 or whatever times normal lately, but there might be some special reason for that?? ;) However jfe and I were discussing these alexa stats on another thread and he made an excellent point. Some of the new FT features such as 'email advice on new posts' means you do not now need to click that forum to see a new post. That keeps the user in touch, but does not give FT website the previous viewing "hit". 10,000 of those emails a day for instance means one imagines typically 10,000 less Forum 'hits' or page visits on the alexa stats. More efficient use of FT however for the user. ^ Like jfe I think this feature is a major improvement over the old FT. For instance I have never ever posted (AFAIK) in the Japan Airlines Forum until yesterday. My post there will generate an auto response when anyone replies, saving me dropping in now and again to see if there are responses. |

As someone who uses Aleaxa to gather competitive analysis, i've always had a lot of pride in the way that FT was ranked. Before changing technology, we often we listed in the top 10,000 Web sites on the Internet. That seems to have changed with our ranking post- technology change.
But, when i look over the internal stats on use of FT, we are surpassing the daily post counts from pre- technology change and our daily new member enrollment hasn't leveled off, still growing on a daily average count. In fact we had a record number of new members for a single day a few weeks back with somewhere between 3-400 new members in a single day. I am baffled by the Alexa ranking since we could not be busier. In fact, we may well be at all-time highs. Prior to the tech change we were often averaging a daily bandwidth of 1-2 Mbps, we're now averaging 3-4 Mbps. And when you look at things like the Iceland thread. I think we had nearly 80,000 people view that in something like a week's time. That's a lot of traffic for a thread in Mileage Run - it wasn't even in what we consider a major forum, ala United or MileageBuzz! All I know is what I know - traffic on FT is at record levels and continuing to grow. Heck, because of traffic we had to increase our contract for bandwidth - now costing us nearly $2,000 a month for a rack and 5 Mbps. I can't explain the mystery of Alexa, but i still use it as a guide. |

It seems you can see what Randy is saying. On the front page it notes that the most users online was just two days ago (June 7) and I recall the prior record was about a week before that. There seems to constantly be 800-1100 people online with FT at any given moment. Over the length of a day, that's a lot of people.

Hey Randy - do you have stats for post-count pre & post migration?
I also agree that many areas I usually frequent seem less busy these days - I wonder if the total number of posts has declined (perhaps) while the number of new folks and "lurkers" has increased? Anyways...keep up the good work! |
Do PM's have an impact?
I don't know about everyone else, but I use the PM feature daily. As a matter of fact, I post less now with the new feature than I did on the old platform. I'm going to guess I'm not alone in this use of the feature.
Do PM's get tracked in the rankings? |

Thanks very much for the feedback, Randy! :) Life is seemingly full of mysteries! ;) Please also note: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329329 Thanks again.! :) -Mark |
