Randy - what do you use to keep in touch?

For a super busy guy like yourself, do you use a RIM BB, a Treo, a Pocket PC??

I'm curious as to how a super busy travel guru such as yourself keep in the loop.

Just over two years ago I became a Renaissance Man. I tossed away my cell phone, and decided to not even travel with my laptop. I've been a long time road warrior (On March 22 of this year, I'll celebrate 18 years since I started InsideFlyer magazine) traveling up to 200 days a year and went through all that "in touch" stuff. I decided one day that I needed my life back and have never looked back. I don't even carry a phone card from MCI earning miles any more. I gave it all up and despite all my friends and everyone elses' (every single employee of mine has a cell phone) need to be in touch all the time, I really haven't suffered much at all and love a return of my life. When traveling, I only check in the office once a day and sometimes not at all, don't access the Internet from any cafe or airport lounge (but i do admit that on my latest trip to Russia while delayed and waiting in a Crown Room lounge that i did find the work station and beamed up FlyerTalk on the browser screen and simple left it for some other road warrior to find....), don't even have my email set up for squirrel mail access, and do enjoy the travel. I only take along now - my iPod and paperback books to read.

Hope I haven't disappointed you, but I've been there and frankly, I like my new life better. I am - totally out of the loop.

I'd gladly do that for him, for a modest fee. "Official Flyertalk browser opener, International division"

Randy, wow!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

You should write a book about life without technology. I'm sure it would be very interesting.

It's called the Unabomber's Manifesto. But I don't think any of us pushes the envelope that far http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

When I stay too long on FT e.g. at my University or in an airline lounge I leave FT miles open as well and simply do not close the browser of the public computer.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif My pleasure to do so more often in the future. And yes, I would encourage Randy to write a book. I guess at least a few hundred FTers would purchase and read it.

If you did post on FT on that computer, don't forget to delete the cache afterwards - unless you really want your identity being 'stolen'.

I think it's not really the cache you have to clear. It's the cookie file.

You can either "Delete Cookies" from browser options (which will delete all the cookie files), or if you don't know how to do that of if the browser settings are restricted (which they often are on public computers)...

Just go up to the top of the FlyerTalk page and click on "Preferences" and then "Delete all cookies set by by this forum!" and that should do the trick.

Thanks for the post, Randy.

I'd begun to think I was a Luddite having a three year old US only cellphone amd refusing to take a laptop on trips. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I do use Internet cafes while traveling to send "postcards" to family and friends.

Sounds like a smart idea to me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

I was at the Malaysia Airlines First Class lounge in KUL yesterday, and the guy there in next little booth looked like he had just moved the NASA mission control from Houston to that tiny space. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

He had leads and cables going to and from all sorts of weird looking things, to and from laptops, phones, microwave ovens, washing machines .. who knows what was in there.

I just looked at it all, checked some emails using the free MH computer and walked away with a smile, thinking how long it takes him to clear security each and every flight. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
