Some Moderators have clearly placed their own interpretations and personal "style" on the Forums they Moderate. Patron (as one example) has IMO over-zealously closed many threads that many others here seem to agree was not necessary. However, it IS his distinct and consistent 'style', and Randy and those forum regular visitors appear fine to live with that. He is a very nice guy, and those who regularly post there seem to realise his strict reading of the forum rules. So much so a number of us in DUS (after patron was phoned I might add) started this one to make light hearted fun of one locked down classic from a few months back: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum32/HTML/003047.html It does not appear the LH forum has descended into total anarchy due to this, but many of us have had a good laugh - patron included I feel sure. You will notice two other Forum moderators joined in the fun. Flyertalk with a sense of humour appeals to me a great deal more than one with total black and white inflexibility. The 'Coupon Connection' Moderators have posted very clearly that they will allow threads offering things that have nothing whatsoever to do with the official Forum description - such as a current '$15 off' Staples Cert. Should that one be locked too Camera Guy? Morrissey? It is their chosen "style" of Moderation, and although such material has nothing to do with the Coupon Connection Forum guidelines Randy and the users of that forum also seem happy to live with it, and I do not see any problems being caused by it lately. Does anyone else? Do we need to start a thread on that too perhaps? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I might as always be wrong, but it seems evident to me that Randy accepts that personal "style" is a fact of life for some Moderators. He appears entirely happy to allow good and vigilant Moderators to have a little leeway in this area if they are consistent, and up front on their policy and interpretation. In the 2 forums I mention here, (plus S.P.A.M.) this is clearly the case. These folks donate a lot of their time to do the job, and in doing so save Randy a ton of hours each month he USED to need spend policing all these forums. ------------------ ~ Glen ~ Come visit HERE the most ** FRIENDLY FORUM ** on FlyerTalk. Funny how it seems the people who might complain the most about the content of others' posts, are the ones who have had absolutely nothing to contribute to the topic at hand themselves.
The posts in question might not necessarily fit the category exactly, but at least their intent is to share information that some other member might benefit from. Very unlike the posts by those who wish to stifle the voice, eh? For the record, 10 of the 14 posts Morrissey has added to that forum have been to either question or discredit another members' posts. He has not once actually contributed anything himself. ------------------ "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." -- Ben Franklin [This message has been edited by tazi (edited 07-29-2003).] |

IMHO, her description was very accurate and on topic regarding the current discussion initiated by Morissey. |
Yes, I realise I am being the pot calling the kettle black. But so is your post in reply to mine and so is this post in reply to yours.
And I disagree that her post is on-topic. At least two-thirds of it is devoted to discrediting Morrissey's posts in that forum. But who am I to say? The judge has spoken, and she comes bearing statistics too. Who can argue with that? Since we're all posting our opinions, then let me add a http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif FewMiles.. |
It's OK for the pot to call the kettle black if the kettle is doc.

Unfortunately though, for the wrong reasons.
